Company Caught Poisoning Popular Food Sued

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

By Deborah Dupré

A common food that mothers across America are giving to their children today is poisoned. This product is likely in the reader’s pantry and is still on grocery store shelves. Thursday, non profit organizations filed a lawsuit in Washington DC against General Mills for misleading the public by labeling their Nature Valley granola bars, “Made with 100% NATURAL whole grain OATS” when the product is poisoned. Test results proved the bars are contaminated with the herbicide chemical glyphosate, Monsanto’s Roundup ingredient, along with hundreds of other glyphosate-based herbicides. These are all in those Nature Valley granola bars on the store shelves and in your pantry right now because you expect them to be natural and toxin-free.

Moms Across America, Beyond Pesticides and Organic Consumers Association with The Richman Law Group filed jointly on behalf of the non profit members in Washington DC under the District of Columbia’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act.

‘What Have I Done to My Children, And What Has Been Done To Them Without My Consent?’

“As a mother, when I read “100% Natural” I would expect that to mean no synthetic or toxic chemicals at all. Glyphosate is a toxic chemical that the EPA recognizes as a “reproductive effector” which “can cause liver and kidney damage” and “digestive effects.” It is unacceptable that Nature Valley granola bars contain any amount of this chemical,” said Zen Honeycutt, Founder and Executive Director of Moms Across America.

A national survey conducted by Consumer Reports in 2015 found sixty six percent of consumers seek products with a “natural” food label under the false belief that the products are produced without pesticides, genetically modified organisms, hormones and artificial ingredients.

“Glyphosate cannot be considered ‘natural’ because it is a toxic, synthetic herbicide,” said Jay Feldman, executive director of Beyond Pesticides. “Identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a carcinogen, it should not be allowed for use in food production, and certainly not in food with a label that suggests to consumers that the major ingredient –oats– is 100% natural, when it is produced with and contains the highly hazardous glyphosate,” he said.

“Food grown with dangerous pesticides like glyphosate isn’t natural. Consumers understand this. That’s why sales of natural products are booming. Unfortunately, companies’ misleading claims trick consumers into buying just what they’re trying to avoid. This has to be stopped.” -Alexis Baden-Mayer, Political Director of the Organic Consumers Association

The case specifically cites the use and presence of the weed-killer glyphosate in General Mills’ Nature Valley Granola products. The hazardous chemical is used during the production of oats, the major ingredient in these products, which are marketed as “natural” and labeled “Made with 100% Natural Whole Grain Oats.” As a result, glyphosate is present in the natural-labeled products.

Proponents of glyphosate herbicide might claim that residue levels in many foods and beverages in America recently are below the EPA allowable levels established in 2014, and therefore consumers have no reason for concern. A 2015 study published in the Environmental Health journal, however, finds that chronic, low-dose exposure to glyphosate as low as .1 parts per billion leads to adverse effects on liver and kidney health. A study released in early 2016 finds that glyphosate can cause changes to DNA function resulting in the onset of chronic disease, including diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease. The herbicide bio-accumulates in the human body. There is no “safe” amount of poison.

The lawsuit alleges that in Nature Valley products marketing, General Mills misleads and fails to disclose the use and presence of glyphosate and its harmful effects. Plaintiffs are asking a jury to find General Mills’ “natural” labeling deceptive and misleading; therefore a violation of law; and required removal from the market.

No small wonder children have unprecedented health and behavior issues. Then, they get punished for acting out, instead of punishing the chemical criminals causing unwanted, unacceptable behavior. Being a parent is the toughest job of all.

General Mills, Kelloggs, Post they are all poison and meant to be. The leading and main ingredient in these toxic
rat food imitators is corn syrup and GMO grains. Very inexpensive so even the poorest of Americans can get their recommended daily allowance of soft kill poison. Ever notice in America if it is toxic, cancer causing, or just plain useless it is free or low cost?
Examples of free or cheap poison: Fluoride, vaccines, junk food cereal, sodas, GMO’s. Get it? These are only offered free or at a discount because they are deadly poisons. In Russia they are mostly illegal because Russia is not trying to exterminate their population and do not need to. They did not make grandiose promises about healthcare and retirement plans that will surely not be needed because most Americans will be poisoned before retirement or get cancer. That is the plan and always has been. If Big Pharma can make a few bucks along the way while you die they are more than glad to be of assistance.

        Great comment, Takealook.

The EU has banned GMOs, too. Why Europeans know better than to put up with being poisoned that way.

Sadly, too many Americans are so domesticated through lack of education and other social services, they cannot think past just getting any food on the table. They live pay check to pay check, as good ol’ capitalism does. But mention a change – with more social services – a touch more of socialism than Americans already have but are too mind-controlled to recognize, and bam – get slayed. So, they will continue to be among the genocided.

It seems there’s not enough time to correct the woes of capitalism and the corporate government. There are not enough people suffering for any chance of survival, the way presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein proposes.

          Dear Deborah,

          We have tons of GMO.
And they are in every finalized food product (soja lecithine for example).
We have tons of pesticides, so much that the lend is dying. And you don’t have a choice.
The last grape and wine producer who refused to use pesticides finished in jail and had to pay a fine that bankrupt him.

          Big pharma is very powerful.

Example : In France ,it is mandatory by law to vaccinate children before 6 month old for Diphteria, tetanos and polio.
This vaccine cost about 7 euros.

However, you cannot find it. You can only find the penta or hexa vaccines that will probably do ravages in one generation or two like the BCG did.
Those vaccines cost around 28 to 60 euros.

The pharma firms refuses to produce again the vaccine only mandatory by law and they have literally organize a penury.

the lasts doctors who went against this, even if they are not anti vaccine, lost their license to be medical doctor. For life.

            Ô Nanarchiste Bourré,
Thank you for your well informed comment you posted – and your obvious compassion. Maybe with more people like you and enough whistle-blowers, we can win back our planet. I, too, however, know doctors who’ve been intimidated, both in different practices, and both with bullets shot at their offices for speaking out against the establishment – the ruling cabal, that is.

        • Man

not really banned. EU regulates case by case… I think they have at least 20+ approved GMO’s and I know that includes yeast.

but the whole natural thing is a bit misleading. because they can still use organic pesticides. mainly Pyrethrins is an insecticide and kills off bees quite easily and is toxic for humans in certain doses

    • Gryphon

That is just disgusting. Absolutely appalling!
Monsanto needs to ‘feel some pain’ from both sides now…
Because if General Mills blames Monsanto – and claims non-Monsanto oats cannot be sourced – then the S should really HTF.
And it will no longer be only the farmers claiming they don’t wish to grow the stuff.
Now the end-users won’t want the toxic, polluted crops either!
(Good Lord, the things Humans will do for money are insane. Beyond embarrassing!)
If Monsanto is not STOPPED, I fear for the future of the planet…

      • Deborah Dupre

Totally agree. The Obama admin. appointed one of the Monsanto mobsters appointed Michael Taylor, the previous vice president of Monsanto as Deputy Commissioner for the FDA — the board tasked with regulating Taylor’s own industry. Neither main candidates for pres. will do any differently. They’re both bought by the same crooks. It is scary and yes, agreed, this is a time to be justifiably fearful for the planet.

        • Gryphon

Oh come on – I think everyone knows that only one of the candidates is “bought by the same crooks”!
The other one is most definitely not. It is in fact the major source of his attractiveness…
Trump is REAL. Anyone who says differently has not been paying attention.
You don’t think he’ll immediately shine a very bright light on precisely the nasty business you’re mentioning?

          • Deborah Dupre

Actually Grypton, They both are. What’s worse is his list of economic advisers – heavy Wall Street hitters, with no history of looking out of the the best interest of the average American. NPR stated:

“Trump has released the names of his economic advisers, a list heavy with Wall Street and real estate industry figures, but short of actual economists.

The names include several people from the world of hedge fund and private equity firms, including Steven Feinberg, chief executive and co-founder of Cerberus Capital Management; Thomas J. Barrack, founder and executive chairman of Colony Capital Inc.; and John Paulson, president of a hedge fund company bearing his name.

One major oil industry executive is on the list: Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources, who made a fortune in Bakken Shale formation and is said by Forbes to be worth almost $13 billion.

Among the real estate industry executives Trump named are Howard M. Lorber, president and CEO of Vector Group, and Steven Roth, chief executive of Vornado Realty Trust.

The Trump campaign said in a statement that the team is comprised of the “top economists in the country as well as the most successful industry leaders in finance, real estate and technology.”

People are going to be in for a bigger surprise after going ga-ga over Obama.

      Unfortunately:
‘Although the FDA has not engaged in rulemaking to establish a formal definition for the term “natural,” we do have a longstanding policy concerning the use of “natural” in human food labeling. The FDA has considered the term “natural” to mean that nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added to, a food that would not normally be expected to be in that food. However, this policy was not intended to address food production methods, such as the use of pesticides, nor did it explicitly address food processing or manufacturing methods, such as thermal technologies, pasteurization, or irradiation. The FDA also did not consider whether the term “natural” should describe any nutritional or other health benefit. ‘ http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm456090.htm

      • Deborah Dupre

FDA – just another cover up agency that has little to no benefit to Americans.

        • what if...

Protect the Corps against the people now.

          • Deborah Dupre

What if…? Gov’s been protecting corporations for way too long. Corps can and do literally get away with murder.

    • what if...

Gives you natural obesity and more! What is really natural, is to let field grains  mature and dry out in the field without any chemicals.

The research, regulators and lawmakers are all paid up. Fascism is pretty damn efficient, aint it? No need to worry about the weather!

The answer, my fellow would-be victims is to: NEVER BUY ANY GENERAL MILLS PRODUCT AGAIN. Their products are only better than no food at all.

They may not care about our health, but their god MONEY…now that, that they care about. I hope the lawsuit puts them out of business for this, because the corporate fascists cant go to jail, like the rest of us can for a lot less than poisoning our fellow man and woman.

      • Deborah Dupre

Right. What if one of us mislabeled food that had several poisons in it and sold it to several people? Swat teams, brutalization, jail. Major corporation does it and sells it to millions of people? Slap on the wrist or a menial fine so they can go on poisoning “the little people.”

        • what if...

Just another proof, along with dozens of others, that we are really slaves, treated no better than lab rats by the oligarchy.

My experience with starches/carbohydrates has shown that they are the worst things called food. In truth, we should stop eating them all to the extent of no more than 50 milligrams per day (some book).

Here is the short list of major carbs to avoid from all sources:
grains (even whole grains) like oats, wheat etc
          rice
          potatoes
SUGAR and some replacements like agave, corn syrup etc
          corn

Yes, some of the most tasty and addictive foods.

If we dont love the truth, no matter how bad it is, we will start believing all of their lies, no matter how brutal they get!

    • Pink Slime

The case will be thrown out on two reasons.

One: what they labeled is true. It is 100% Oats.
Two: there is no definition for what is “natural” as an official label.

So you should of known better. You want real oats? Grow your own.
