Could Cannabis CBD Cure Psoriasis and Eczema?

Eight million people in the U.S. suffer from psoriasis and 31 million suffer with eczema – that’s a whopping 11 percent of the American population. Cannabis could treat psoriasis and eczema soon, researchers believe.

Scientists from University of Colorado believe that cannabidiol (CBD) from cannabis could be the next wave of psoriasis and eczema treatment.

Trials on a plant compound have already begun to see if CBD can truly combat skin issues. Some people claim that cannabis and/or CBD have helped with their inflammatory conditions. It would be nice to see this duplicated in a study where we could find out which plant compounds can heal damaged skin.

Daily Mail reports:

Researchers, led by Dr Robert Dellavalle, have begun experiments on 40 Parkinson’s patients with seborrheic dermatitis, InsideScience reports.

Trials of a CBD-based pill have yet to finish – but studies have shown compounds in cannabis can help eczema and psoriasis patients.

Dr Dellavelle told the website: ‘There’s a large segment of the population that doesn’t like using steroids, even if they are topical steroids on their skin.

‘This [CBD] would be an alternative, natural product for them to try.’

He added that there’s a ‘potential’ of using CBD that may work in a different way to patients who receive no benefits from topical steroids.

Of course, they say it will be years before this drug would be available meaning sufferers will be left with humiliating flaky, scaly and weeping skin. Not to mention the tortuous itch and burn – imagine having poison ivy….every single day of your life.

Typical treatments for psoriasis and eczema are corticosteroid creams which carry side effects – significantly, permanent scarring. Many people finally resort to raw food diets and fasting but often have to keep up those extreme measures or the symptoms return.

Hemp-derived CBD is available legally in the United States – for the time being.

While studies are nice, it would also benefit the population if the war on drugs ended and people could access these plants to realize their benefits without having to wait years to eventually get a prescription for a possibly synthetic copy.
