Calling it a day

If you’re just now stumbling upon my site, you’ll find a hodge podge of asthma and fitness related posts that Ive written over the past 14 years and how I broke all the rules when it comes to fitness and severe lung disease. Through my personal experiences, Ive tried to give people a glimpse of what its like to live with an extremely severe form of asthma, while trying to stay physically healthy through a daily regimen of long distance fitness walking. I think I’ve pretty much covered everything there is on both of these topics, and with not much more to say, it’s probably a good time its to move on.

Actually, I never met to keep this blog running for as long as I have. Back in 2004 when I started it, blogging was a relatively new medium. I thought it would be cool to do an online chronical of my journey, from disabled and totally out of shape middle-aged severe asthmatic, to a semi accomplished endurance athlete. I figured Id keep blogging until I finished my first full 26.2 mile marathon walk. That was 12 years ago, and while I completed that initial goal ( 9 times over), my readers to seemed to be interested in my asthma, so I began to focus more on that aspect and just kept going. In the blink of an eye 14 years have past which brings us to the present.

Well now it’s 2019 and despite gaining many extra years of quality life through my fitness achievements, 60 + years of near constant exacerbations have taken quite a toll on my body. The fact is, Im short of breath now 24/7 and sick more often than not. My ability to exercise and walk has also been greatly diminished due to bone and muscle problems brought on by a lifetime of prednisone use. To be completely honest, on the rare occasion when I’m actually feeling good, the last thing I want to do is think or write about this disease. I suppose I could continue blogging about my about one millionth asthma hospitalization or my 1,000th time on a ventilator, but what’s the point right? Ive beaten the odds many times and luckier than many. So again, I think now is a good time to call it day.

I’ll be leaving the website up for a few months, but probably wont be updating much, if at all in the future. For those interested in following my antics in the future, and on a more personal level, feel free to friend me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/stephen.gaudet.18 Id love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading my stuff and for your comments all these years. This blog was a great ride and yielded tons of friendships worldwide.

If you suffer from this horrible disease, don’t give up hope. Do your best to stay physically fit, advocate and take an active role in your own treatment, find ways to get the best medical care you can get and never ever give up the fight.

Hope to see again.
Sincerely,
Steve
