A daily dose of sodium bicarbonate slows the decline of kidney function in some patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), reports an upcoming study in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology(JASN). “This cheap and simple strategy also improves patients’ nutritional status, and has the potential of translating into significant economic, quality of life, and clinical outcome benefits,” comments Magdi Yaqoob, MD (Royal London Hospital).
Proper administration for those in danger of developing kidney disease includes: On the first day, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon baking soda under the tongue. The next day, mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 teaspoon of salt into 1.5 liters of water and drink each day for 2-3 days.
A study conducted at the Whitechapel hospital in Royal London was the first controlled test in a clinical setting. The British team at the hospital says sodium bicarbonate can dramatically slow the effects of kidney disease.
