Crimedoctors treating the brain…

Doctors/physicians with difficulty understanding the human brain find it demanding or bothersome to consider ethical, vital and humanistic approaches when treating patients. This is even so today and was so in the past. A sort of a beginning of shocking treatments introduced in Scandinavia (“A Lobotomic Scandinavian Model”) came most probably about around 1939 when Walter Freeman (“The American Lobotomizer”) visited Denmark and lectured on lobotomy, this was also the year Dr. Snorre Wolhfahrt (From Sweden) went on a travel/trip to America where sources “mean” he also met with Walter Freeman and visited several mental hospitals. This then led to so called psychosurgery (From Walter Freeman´s book titled “Psychosurgery”) in Scandinavia. First of in Scandinavia with these cruel surgical procedures was a hospital Oslo in 1941, practiced under Ornulv Odegård who had contacts with a Swiss-American, Adolf Meyer, “the dean of American psychiatry” as some meant. Although another source article called “Adolf Meyer: Psychiatric Anarchist” writes that Meyer “enabled the popularization of colectomy and frontal lobotomy”. It also believed that Meyer knew Freeman.

Thereafter it began in Sweden with (a initiative by Dr. Wohlfahrt)  these surgical proceedings in a hospital in Stockholm 1944. A congress later was held in 1946, with three doctors, Dr. Broagar of Denmark, Dr. Wohlfahrt of Sweden and Dr. Dedichen of Norway. One of the topics was during that meeting “Psychiatric therapy, especially leucotomy and shock therapy”. A Swedish source tells that in Scandinavia between the years 1945 and 1960, 11 999 psychosurgeries was done. These were lobotomies done on psychiatric patients and led to suffer with severe brain damage and also to cruel patient’s deaths. The gruesome methods used in psychiatry wasn´t and isn´t pleasant. As the 1950´s continued more and more patients were drawn into the psychiatry control. Lobotomy, electro shocks and tied up patients led doctors into no understand. But doctors hadn´t enough. So harmful medicals were developed and used on psychiatry patients. It was called anti-psychotic´s or later called neuroleptic´s, the first one was named chlorpromazine (other names used for it was Hibernal, Thorazine). What it gave patients was movement troubles, restlessness, dry mouth, shakiness-nervousness, etc. Lithium (Still used today) was another medical that came and it gave diarrhea, muscle changes, nausea etc. The suffer continued…
