Only Your Doctor Can Tell You If Vitamin C Is Right For You? Does Your Doctor Know About Your Genetic Disease?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I think that vitamin C is the litmus test for how informed your doctor is.  Is your doctor a good doctor?

The vast majority of all mammals, fish, reptiles, and birds synthesize their own vitamin C.  Currently human DNA lacks the gene to produce the enzyme used in the synthesis of vitamin C.  Humans have a genetic disease.  Either you get your vitamin C from food or you can take vitamin C supplements.  Did your doctor ever mention that to you?  New information?  Nope.

From Wikipedia:

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid and ascorbate) is a vitamin found in various foods and sold as a dietary supplement. It is used to prevent and treat scurvy. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue, the formation of collagen, and the enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitters. It is required for the functioning of several enzymes and is important for immune system function. It also functions as an antioxidant. Most animals are able to synthesize their own vitamin C, although humans, the other great and lesser apes, monkeys (but not all primates), most bats, some rodents, and certain other animals must acquire it from dietary sources.

And this, some of which will require a good doctor for treatment:

Vitamin C as a possible preventative and treatment for the coronavirus.

◘ Injectable vitamin C (mineral ascorbates) have been used successfully to treat viral infections for several decades:

https://riordanclinic.org/2014/02/high-dose-intravenous-vitamin-c-as-a-successful-treatment-of-viral-infections/

Per the article:

“In 1949, Dr. Klenner reported successful treatment of polio, diphtheria, herpes zoster, herpes simplex, chicken pox, influenza, measles, mumps, and viral pneumonia with injections of large doses of vitamin C. “The results,” he wrote, “which we have reported in virus diseases using vitamin C as the antibiotic may seem fantastic.” “

“In addition, Dr. Klenner treated many cases of influenza with vitamin C. The size of the dose and the number of injections required were in direct proportion to the fever curve and to the duration of the illness. Further the response of encephalitis virus to ascorbic acid therapy was dramatic. Six cases of encephalitis were treated and cured with vitamin C injections. Two cases were associated with the pneumonia virus; one followed chicken pox, one mumps, one measles and one a combination of measles and mumps. In all these cases definite evidence was found to confirm the belief that massive, frequent injections are necessary in treating virus infections with vitamin C.”

Note that influenza was being treated in 1949 and before with vitamin C injections.  This is nothing new but just forgotten.  Probably in favor of vaccines.

◘ Dr. Robert F. Cathcart, III, M.D. successfully treated thousands of patients with oral vitamin C for disorders including: influenza, viral pneumonia, mononucleosis, asthma, cancer, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, bacterial infections:

looking at flu and viral pneumonia from table one, 100 to 200 grams of vitamin C per day in divided doses to treat the coronavirus. The vitamin C is self administered by the patients.

From the article:

“Bowel Tolerance Method

In 1970, I discovered the sicker a patient was, the more ascorbic acid he would tolerate by mouth before diarrhea was produced. At least 80 percent of adult patients will tolerate 10 to 15 grams of ascorbic acid fine crystals in one half cup water in four divided doses per 24 hours without having diarrhea. The astonishing finding was that almost all patients will absorb far greater amounts without having diarrhea when ill. This increased tolerance is somewhat proportional to the toxicity of the disease being treated. Tolerance is increased some by stress (e.g., anxiety, exercise, heat, cold, etc.). Admittedly increasing the frequency of doses increases tolerance perhaps to half again as much; but the tolerance exceeding sometimes 200 grams per 24 hours was totally unexpected.”

◘ “Intravenous ascorbate as a tumor cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agent”: (Translation: vitamin C in the form of mineral ascorbates in an IV for cancer).

Research study here:

https://riordanclinic.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/89014939-web.pdf

This article is useful beyond the information about cancer as it establishes a safe range of blood concentrations of mineral ascorbates. Oral supplementation of vitamin C typically cannot raise the blood concentration of ascorbates above 5 milligrams per deciliter. Ascorbates are safe to non -cancerous cells up to about 28 milligrams per deciliter. If you do the math you will see that within the safe range. The amount of vitamin C in the blood is relatively small. I believe this is due a couple of factors. If tens of grams of ascorbates are administered in an IV, this takes place over a very long period of time, so most of the vitamin C is being utilized (metabolized) by the body. Some is lost in urine. Several years ago I read about Dr. Linus Pauling’s experiments to test how much vitamin C he was losing in his urine. Of the 10 grams per day he was taking at that time, he was losing about 3 grams. I tried to find the article again but I could not. FYI: The safe range for blood concentrations actually exceeds 28 milligrams per deciliter. This is the threshold where there is any detectable negative effect. Temporary concentrations approaching 50 milligrams per deciliter may be acceptable.

◘ Intravenous vitamin C as adjunctive therapy for enterovirus/rhinovirus induced acute respiratory distress syndrome:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28224112

“Infusing high dose intravenous vitamin C into this patient with virus-induced ARDS was associated with rapid resolution of lung injury with no evidence of post-ARDS fibroproliferative sequelae. Intravenous vitamin C as a treatment for ARDS may open a new era of therapy for ARDS from many causes.”

◘ Vitamin C is currently being used successfully in parts of Asia to treat the coronavirus:
