Many of us set ourselves fitness goals at some point in our lives. For some of us, sticking with it can be a challenge. If you’re serious about wanting to get fit and stay fit, here are some ideas that actually work when it comes to keeping up the motivation levels.

Research shows that 39% of the population in the United States has a gym membership, although about 6% of these people never use their gym membership. Around 50% of gym members go to the gym at least twice a week too. These statistics show a positive attitude toward the value of fitness, although with the obesity crisis in the US, people should probably be doing more.

The issue most people come up against sooner or later is a lack of motivation. Either they get stuck in the same exercise routine, which becomes boring after a while, or they don’t see the results they had hoped from exercising, which can be demotivating.

Here are some fitness ideas to keep you motivated and inspired to keep working out.

Remote Classes

Working out remotely has seen an upsurge in popularity since the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, there are now plenty of great quality options for working out from home. This can be a good solution for people who sometimes lack the time to get to the gym and back, or who want to work out at unusual hours when a gym might be closed. While there are many pre-recorded fitness workouts available online, many people respond to some personal interaction during a workout. If this is you, then remote personal training is something worth seriously considering, as you get both a bespoke workout and build up rapport with a professional.                                            

Become a Trainer

If you love fitness but need to find a reason to exercise consistently, consider learning to become a fitness trainer yourself. Many people learn to be a fitness instructor for an additional source of income. Or you may enjoy it so much you make the switch and do it full time. If you become a fitness trainer to earn money, you will get your consistent workouts in, because people will be paying you to run classes for them every week. Not all fitness instructor training programs are done in-person either, as you can now receive a certificate through online courses as well.  

Set Specific Goals

Many people start an exercise program with a general aim of getting fit or being healthier. To stay motivated, it’s important to set goals that are as specific as possible. This means that you can track your progress and see the tangible difference that your fitness protocol is making. Goals can include losing a certain amount of weight or a particular number of inches off your waistline. It can also include healthier lifestyle habits, like eating more vegetables or limiting screentime with an app like Opal. You might even want to set yourself a specific fitness goal, such as being able to run a certain distance within a set time. Once you have reached a goal, you will know you can do it and will feel more inspired to set yourself another goal.

Stick to a Plan

Starting a new exercise routine is all about having a plan and sticking to it. This also allows you “permission” to have certain days where you do not feel pressured to exercise, as recuperation is important too. Set yourself a goal of doing a certain number of workouts each week, as well as a set number of rest days. That means you know exactly where you stand with your fitness planning, and you won’t feel guilty about not exercising if you have pre-decided it will be a rest day.romise a Treat

A great way to stay inspired by your fitness program is to allow yourself an occasional treat that motivates you personally. If you are trying to lose weight, try to make your treat something other than food. For example, doing a workout and then letting yourself watch an episode of your favorite television program is a good way of rewarding your hard work. This is all about creating positive associations with exercise. When you have a fitness routine you really want to stick to, getting yourself into a cycle of work and rewards is a good way of keeping you on track.

Try Something New

Humans are creatures of habit, and everyone will tend to get stuck in a fitness routine at some point. When this happens, it’s a critical time, as many people gradually stop exercising at this point. To tackle this head-on, make yourself try a new form of exercise once a month. Go along to a trial class or search online for inspiration of something you haven’t done before. Either you will discover something you really enjoy doing, so you’ll adopt a new fitness routine for a while. Or you will dislike this new form of exercise, in which case you will feel reinvigorated about doing your usual fitness activity. Either way, getting out of your comfort zone for a moment can be great for fitness longevity.
