How Families Near Mohali Can Reach Addiction Help Faster

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A short quick-reference guide covers who to call, what to bring, and what to check before choosing a centre

Mohali, 29 October 2026. For many families, the hardest part of getting help is knowing where to start. A relative may be drinking heavily or using drugs, and nobody is sure whether to go to a hospital, a clinic or a private centre. Paryas Foundation Mohali has published a short guide for those families. It sets out the first steps in plain language, so that less time is lost to guesswork.

What exists near Mohali

The guide starts with what is on record.

Families looking for a 🔗 nasha mukti kendra in Mohali will find a mix of public and private options. The Tribune has reported that Mohali has a government de-addiction centre in Sector 66, offering OPD medicines and inpatient beds. Next door in Chandigarh, the Drug De-addiction and Treatment Centre at PGIMER is the region’s main government option. It recorded more than 36,000 outpatient visits in 2023, nearly two-thirds from people outside Chandigarh, and admitted nearly 250 patients. The same report said the de-addiction centre at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, has been closed since the Covid period.

Punjab also runs outpatient opioid treatment (OOAT) clinics. Medicine at government clinics has been reported as free. These clinics are for opioid dependence, not alcohol.

Because demand is high, a bed may not be free on the day a family arrives. The guide advises phoning first and keeping a second option ready.

What to bring

The guide suggests carrying:

  • A photo ID, such as Aadhaar
  • Any past prescriptions, test reports or hospital papers
  • A list of current medicines
  • A family member who knows the person’s history

Missing papers are not a reason to stay away. Families can ask the centre what it needs when they phone.

What to verify before choosing

Quality varies, and families are encouraged to ask the same questions of every provider. For a de-addiction centre in Mohali, that means:

  • Who are the doctors, and who handles an emergency at night?
  • Is there a licence the centre can show?
  • What does the programme include, and for how long?
  • What is the total cost, in writing, with a receipt for every payment?
  • What support follows discharge?

The guide also warns against any centre that promises a guaranteed cure, quotes a fixed “package” without an assessment, or refuses family visits.

Why a quick start matters

Treatment often begins late. The Punjab Opioid Dependence Survey (2015), carried out by the Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses and AIIMS’s National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, found that about 80% of those dependent had tried to quit, but only about a third had received any help.

The guide also reminds families that stopping suddenly after heavy alcohol or sleeping pill use can be dangerous without medical advice. Families who would like to ask about services, location and admission can contact 🔗 Paryas Foundation Mohali. As with any provider, they are encouraged to compare more than one option and to confirm every detail before travelling.
