The Dream Act: A New American Illegal Immigration Nightmare

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The blurring of the line between being and not being a US Citizen continues to be pushed. US Citizens should take a look at  ”The Dream Act”. This proposed legislation offers a path to US Citizenship for Illegal Aliens under certain conditions. It appears pro illegal alien groups will soon be pushing this if a bill for wholesale illegal amnesty is not offered.

The Dream Act would give certain illegals a path to citizenship if they complete certain services and education. But the thing I find the most interesting is non-citizens serving in the US Military. How on earth can we count on loyalty from people who serve in the armed forces after they sneak into the country and are not citizens? This is the destruction of US Citizenship pure and simple.

I was not surprised to see Dick Durbin’s hand on this piece of legislation-but how about Republican Orrin Hatch!  See a description on a web portal that supports this below:

The DREAM Act is a bipartisan legislation ‒pioneered by Sen. Orin Hatch [R-UT] and Sen. Richard Durbin [D-IL] ‒that can solve this hemorrhaging injustice in our society. Under the rigorousprovisions of the DREAM Act, qualifying undocumented youth would be eligible for a 6 year long conditional path to citizenship that requires completion of a college degree or two years of military service.

This “Dream Act” Portal tells illegal’s where they can get In-state tuitionwaived in US Colleges (out of state US kids can’t get this) and how to target legislators for what theywant. If you are a taxpayer in one of these states you are subsidizing college for illegals:

In-state tuition for Illegals (with dates legislation or rule passed on the website)

Also-It leaves a big loophole for those illegals with a Police Record see this part of the act below:

For example, some students may have committed minor crimes such as misdemeanors before they turned 18; those minor incidents may not hinder their application process for Conditional Permanent Residency as much as being convicted of a felony would. However, since there are no guidelines, we cannot be 100% positive on which crimes would impact one’s application.

(We know which way this one will go—wide open)

If pro Illegal groups can’t get wholesale amnesty they are going to go for this for a quick victory.

I Invite all US Citizens to check out “The Dream Act” which Reminds me more of “A Nightmare on US Citizens Elm Street)

Before you tell people to read the Dream Act, YOU NEED to read the Dream Act again my friend.
This act is helping immigrants who had NO DECISION in whether they were going to cross the border illegally and who COMPLETED HIGH SCHOOL which is more than I can say for some of our beloved citizens.
Yes it is wrong for people to come here illegally but the Dream Act students were BROUGHT HERE illegally. How can a 6 year old kid be blamed for what his parents made him do?
These kids were then RAISED in the U.S. unaware that they are not supposed to be here. They know NOTHING about their “homelands” and most do not even speak their “native” language.
If you are proposing that children RAISED and EDUCATED here still do not belong, than you are merely a racist and I feel bad for you.

To the above poster-I understand some of your points but I have these questions for you….should the illegals get a college tuition waiver that most US kids will not get- that is paid for by state taxpayors? Also, should not these kids go through a screening and naturalization process …ie do we want them if they have committed crimes? I believe these are legitimate questions.

    • Anonymous

Of course those are valid questions (above poster)
The college tuition waivers that currently exist are only in place because the immigration system is flawed. These universities are attempting to help undocumented students reach higher education. Undocumented students cannot receive financial aide in a general sense, they are rejected from many schools due to the lack of a social security number and they are kept out of the job market (with the exception of low-paying labor jobs). These tuition wavers account for a minimal amount of undocumented students and are being highlighted in this article at a higher rate than they actual occur.
Once the Dream Act is passed these students will be assessed on the same level as their legal counterparts and therefore there will be no “unequal” aide for illegals.
As far as screening goes, from what I have read in the Dream Act, there will be background checks done and those with criminal records will be denied. The naturalization process seems unnecessary since these students will have to have been in the U.S. for at least 6 years to qualify.
Those are valid questions that I think everyone has the right to ask. I wish more people would be asking questions and reading the bill like you (above poster). Labeling the bill a “nightmare on elm street” is just ridiculous.

    • Country Boy

The One big problem that could be a nightmare is the big loophole on criminal activity. Nothing is specified and given that we cannot even get our Federal government to enforce specific immigration laws on the books its a big potential problem 9gang members etc). I think your valid concern for these children (in addition to adults) would be best served by enforcing border controls first. I believe the American people might inclined to talk about other aspects and proposals to this situation if the US controlled its border and protected it’s citizens (and non-citizens at this point). Would you support that?

    • Anonymous

I am all for enforcing our borders. If the U.S. wants to limit immigration they need to do something to keep people from getting in. But talking about controlling the borders now seems too little too late. It that does nothing to deal with the poeple already in the U.S. Many of them want to excel and contribute more to society but they are stuck working low-pay jobs and are being systematically held down because they lack that 9 digit S.S. number. I think you are correct that many people would feel more comfortable if the borders were controlled first and then the DREAM act was dicussed. But the way our society seems to be leaning, especially in the South, is towards deportation of anyone here illegally. Just as we have seen countless times in U.S. history with different minority groups, there is a lot of hate and xenophobia towards Mexicans. My worry is that if the border is the main focus and the people here illegally (many of whom are not criminals) are ignored, there is a lot more hate and discrimination to come.

    • Anonymous

for those in favor of increasing border control take a look at this article

    • Freewilloffering

Wow -that takes the cake…using the least credible source in modern media -MSLSD…the Obama propaganda unit….forget this cheap poorly written fluff…you want real border news ..check this out..guy live near the border and take high def pictures from plane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      http://americanpatrol.com/ABP/PHOTO-OF-THE-DAY/2010/ARCHIVE/100420.html

    • Freewilloffering

By the way…what does illegal immigration say to legal immigrants that happen to be Mexicans or any other nationality? What about all the terrorists, drug dealers and criminals that came in that we dont event know about? The hate and Xenophobia is against those who play by the rules and care for their country. PCness is insane and its killing the country!

    • Anonymous

Anonymous, every child is subject to the actions and decisions of his parents, bad or good. If a child of six had “NO DECISION” in his parents crossing the border illegally, neither did the US taxpayer.
By your reasoning, an American child with loving, well-off parents who can and wish to provide generously for her should have that benefit taken away because **she** had “NO DECISION” in her parents’ saving their money and using it to raise and educate her.
The real trap in the DREAM Act is that as soon as these students receive their Permanent Resident status they are free to bring their immediate family in the country, too–outside the quotas, an unintended and harmful consequence.

    • Country Boy

To the above poster “Amen to that”. The bottom line is that we don’t know who is here and why-Be they hard truck farm worker, terrorist,Spy or drug dealer. They all need to be checked and “naturalized” like all legal immigrants. There is a reason these laws were put in place. I can tell you that pro-illegal rallies advocating giving the southwestern part of the US to Mexico and proclaiming Communism as a great movement is not helping the illegals cause in any way.

    • Anonymous

Yes freewilloffering, their loyalty should be in question. They will enlist in the military and fight for your freedom to criticize patronize. You are person who probably believes that the Japanese internment camps in the 1940′s where a good idea, even after data clearly demonstrated the loyalty of Japanese. Its called xenophobia against all minorities in the US.

Anonymous the article is contributed by the AP press not NBC. Don’t you know AP is unbiased contributer to FOX,CNN,the Washington Post, New York times CBS and all major publications. Their goal is to provide credible news to the public.

A resident of a state earns in-state tuition because they live and pay taxes in the state. Hence, if a DREAM student has payed taxes in a state for 10 years. Is he/she entitle to in-state tuition?

The DREAM Act is a just and fair legislation that will allow Americans to be introduced to the formal economy. Why waste $9500 plus every year educating them from K-12. By international law and US supreme court no child should be denied the right to education based on legality. DREAM students are loyal, courageous, and determined individuals who deserve a chance to realize their dreams.

    • USA3419

As “Anonymous” has stated, that there will be background checks for all of the DREAMers, so your concerns about children being terrorist, drug dealers and spy’s are irrelevant. The DREAMers were brought the US without a say, many of them didn’t even relaize they were undocumented util it was time to apply to college. Even if you were to get rid of every immigrant in the US, there would still be drugs, rapes, murder, discrimination, racism and everything else. Illegals are actually the cause of the least crimes, due to the fact that they do not want to call attention to themselves or their families. These students are just asking for an opportunity. They are an investement that America cannot loose. These children are not criminals, these children are risking their whole lives, freedom and future for an EDUCATION!!!
WOW, would you risk your life, future and freedom for an education or the right to fight for your country?
STOP LOOKING DOWN ON THESE CHILDREN, YOUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON THEIR DREAMS.

    • USA3419

AMERICA NEEDS THE DREAM ACT NOW!
AMONGST THESE DREAMERS ARE THE BEST TEACHERS, DOCTORS, ENGINEERS, SCIENTIST, ETC. THESE CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MEANING OF HARD WORK, AND SUCCEEDING WHEN ALL THE ODDS ARE AGAINST YOU. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT WILL TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THE VALUE OF AN EDUCATION, THEY ARE THE ONES THAT CAN FIND A CURE TO CANCER, THEY ARE THE ONES THAT CAN MAKE THIS COUNTRY STAND ON ITS OWN AGAIN.
THEY KNOW HOW TO LOVE WHEN THEY RECEIVE NOTHING BUT HATE IN RETURN.
THEY KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO GIVE 100%+ WHILE THEY GET LESS THAN 50% IN RETURN, YET THEY KEEP FIGHTING FOR THEIR DREAMS.

    • USA3419

I am not fightin for immigration at this point. I am fighting for over 1.2 children who were born in the worng part of the border. These children deserve to live without fear in the only country they know as their own.
      FREE THE DREAM!!!

    • Anonymous

To the No Spin Zone person: The DREAM Act will NOT give undocumented students a college tuition waiver. You are seriously misinformed. It merely allows them to contribute more than they already are to this great country. They are students that deserve to be called what they have always been: American.

READ THE BILL! There is nothing about free college tuition waivers!

    • usmrncrp

These students aren’t doing anything to harm other individuals, if they are worthy to become citizens then why not give them a chance; we are all about getting great minds together. Those taxes that we all complain about have to be paid anyway, even for those American citizens that have a chance to work but will not. In all the 3rd world regions I’ve visited, I have seen the desperate and hopeless situation that people live in, with no hope for a better job, education, or government assistance. I’d never been more grateful for the dammed good fortune of living in this country. If I was born is such 3rd world despair, I would do ANYTHING and BREAK ANY LAW to get into America, and so would you.

    • Ellie

How could you ever call education a nightmare? I feel truly offended by this article. I am teacher and this truly upsets me. It surprises me how American Citizens do not see the benefits of educating their residents (no matter their legal status, they live here.) I want security and my borders secure, because I do not want any terrorist coming to attack my country. However, this is not an immigration issue, is an education issue. As a teacher I have been blessed to meet undocumented children that are hard working students that give their 200 percent in everything they do. They are not only excellent students, but good members of society. Most of them volunteer in their communities without receiving anything. On the other hand, I have seen many American Citizens that do not have the same love and appreciation of education as many undocumented students do. This as a teacher breaks my heart. Because I want to educate children no matter their race, culture or legal status. Because I believe that education is crucial element. With education we could prevent many problems. Please fellow citizens, read THE DREAM ACT and do not deny a human being the opportunity to be educated.

    • Freewilloffering

Lady ….this is not about Education its about Citizenship, a nation and security. WE CAN’T EVEN BEGIN to address this or anything else until the border is secure. Otherwise we will have an endless stream of people looking for benefits along with the importation of terrorists, drug dealers and other criminals. Quite drinking the teachers union Communist koolaid and start caring about the future of this country. Until anyone becomes a citizen they should NOT have access to ANY benefits that US Citizen do not have……..

    • Ellie

      FreewillOffering,
Please tell me how securing our borders is going to address the people who are here already. I could understand that these people have breaking a law, but let us not forget that the US has had laws in the pass that haven’t been fair. It is about education, they do not want free education, but a system where it is more accessible. They are not taking away any from us, US citizens. They do indeed pay taxes, and do not receive most of the benefits. I also want to know why these children who have been raised in America should be taking responsibility of something that they did not understand and that they have no responsibility. Most of the times US citizens that are minors and commit crimes, such as murder are not charge as adults. This is an issue that needs to be address now!!

P.S. You should look into theories of migrations. The Bracero Program. Illegal migration was created as an unintended consequence. That is why many European immigrants weren’t considered illegal back in the 1900s.

      I want solutions, not excuses!

    • Country Boy

THE PROBLEM GET WORSE IF WE CONTINUE TO BE THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT PROTECT ITS BORDERS AND GIVES BENEFITS TO NON CITIZENS. FIX THE PROBLEM FIRST ……..OR SHIP THE ILLEGALS OUT PERIOD….

    • Ellie

      No Spin Zone,

Did you read my P.S. on the previous comment that I made? AGH is annoying when people comment without educating themselves. That’s why I became a teacher… to teach! But I can only do much when people are close minded.
How productive and right will be to send back to “his/her” country a young student who was raised here! Who came as a baby and do not know any other language but ENGLISH! How right and productive is it? What about if that young enthusiastic human could contribute to our society and economy way more than a lazy citizen that has apply for unemployment for the past two years and just seats at his/her living room like a potato couch! This is what makes the difference. A hard working person or a lazy person! People who want to succeed and contribute to society and those who do NOT! Who would you admire? Because I know who I will support and give a big applause!

    • Country Boy

OK Lady…we know the AFT/NEA line on all this …ad nauseum..however…I challenge ANYONE INCLUDING YOU to watch this video. This is why there has been a naturalization process in the past…this is why we don’t automatically make anyone citizens..even if they have lived here for a while. All legal immigrants have to take an oath to the United States and to uphold the Constitution…after watching this do you think that will always happen?

      /news/78/348/Illegal_Aliens_Openly_Promote_Communism_at_Atlanta_Rally.html

    • Anonymous

I’m arriving to the party a little late but I made it..No Spin Zone..really, really dude..You are going to throw these kids, these dream students in the same group as the immigrants that participated in the communism rally..Cmon man, be a man..These kids aren’t anything like that lot..You know it, I know it..its just easier to blame them because they are undocumented..blah blah they’re undocumented they’re all serious criminals blah blah..Be honest with yourself, better yet go educate yourself..meet one of these kids, and you’ll know just like I when I met one that they are just like you & I..an American

    • Country Boy

Once again you obfuscate the point ..the point is not that there are “good kids” I am sure there are…the point is that we have a naturalization act for a reason. To see if these people are desirable (and yes there are some “bad kids” in the mix too)and to determine loyalty to the United States of America. If “these kids” have a criminal and or/gang record and/or wont swear allegiance to this country we should not take them. The process should be followed..as it has been in the past…seperate the good from the bad. Please quite crying kids and victims and have an intelligent discussion…!

    • Ellie

The DREAM Act will do that too. They would not help the ones who have criminal records. Have you read it?

    • Country Boy

      Yes I have…leaves a big loophole…why don’t you try reading it…you would see this:

“since there are no guidelines, we cannot be 100% positive on which crimes would impact one’s application”.

Watch the Libs drive a truck thru this one….it could have been specific…but they wanted to leave a big opening..just like the border……

    • Anonymous

The American Dream is the right of Legal Citizens of the United States and NOT for people here illegally. I don’t care how they got here the fact is they are here illegally. For all of those bleeding liberals who want EVERYONE to have a chance at a college education I challenge you to foster an American student and help them pay for their education. Listen up people America is in survival mode. We cannot continue to allow the illegal alien families to consume public resources in excess of $19,000 per year. That is per family. The cost to American tax payers to pay for the illegal aliens social services from 1996 to present is an astounding $397 BILLLION DOLLARS! Where do you suppose the money the illegal aliens make is going?? They are wiring their money to Mexico! They don’t pay taxes AND they don’t support the U.S. economy. All illegal aliens are required to submit applications for residency. It is the law and if they are here illegally and they have children while they are here illegally, then they need to be deported- the entire family- back to their country of origin until such time that they can re-enter the U.S. LEGALLY. NO amnesty for illegal immigrants and NOBAMA 2012!
