Dissension Grows within Senate Immigration Gang

This week, a gathering of eight U.S. senators continues cobbling together yet another mass immigration amnesty for the estimated 12 to 20 million illegal alien migrants.  Unfortunately, none of their work benefits the American people. Why? They work to bequeath instant citizenship on people who jumped our borders for work and birthright citizenship.  None of them arrived legally.  None of the senators has ever taken any measures to enforce current U.S. immigration laws.

The effects of an amnesty reach farther than anyone can imagine. The Heritage Foundation estimates a low of $3 trillion and a high of $5 trillion to legalize and plug into the American system that 12 to 20 million illegal alien migrants. If their numbers exceed 20 million, the costs accelerate commensurately.

Additionally, educating, housing and feeding them on welfare dollars will grow enormously from the sheer numbers that become legalized.  They will tap into our Social Security system, which will send it into a downward spiral with the added millions of people enjoying benefits.

Ironically, the same elected congressional individuals will not put any kind of enforcement into action—thus, millions of added illegals will flood across our borders.

“No agreement on immigration legislation yet,” read one of two statements from Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) last weekend.

“Despite praise from some members of the Gang of Eight for the special interest agreement between big business and big labor, Sen. Rubio is trying to put the brakes on any speculation that the legislation is a done deal,” said Stein. “His colleagues on the Gang of Eight are sending quite another message. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called any alleged disagreement “semantics” on NBC’s Meet the Press, adding, “…I don’t expect there to be any problems.” And, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told CNN that the bill will be “rolled out next week.”

“However well intentioned Sen. Rubio may have been months ago when he started the process, he’s getting more than he bargained for and is being pulled into a vortex by Democrats who have already began breaching promises,” said Stein.

When Rubio and other GOP lawmakers initiated the planning for “comprehensive immigration reform” it was predicated on two assumptions:

1. Any amnesty plan would be preceded by assurances that the border was secure. That is no longer the case according to President Obama, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, and most Senate Democrats who now insist that trigger mechanisms be scrapped.
2. Early assurances were made that the process wouldn’t be rushed and there would be opportunities for hearings, public input, and time to read the bill. That’s no longer the case. Senators Sessions (R-Ala.) and Rubio are now engaged in a war of words with Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) over Leahy’s announcement that Senate Republicans might have, at best, two weeks to review a bill.

“Reality may be sinking in for Rubio; the Democrats cannot be trusted to bargain an immigration bill in good faith,” said Stein. “Moreover, Sen. Rubio is starting to feel heat from rank and file conservatives who are now just learning details of the plans – and they don’t like what they see. Rubio may not be looking for an escape hatch just yet – but he’s probably well aware of where it may be.”
