Close collaborator to Mencho: Víctor Zapién Venegas CJNG leader, is extradited to the US

One of the main leaders of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), Víctor Zapién Venegas, was extradited this Monday to the United States, where he is required to be tried for his probable responsibility for criminal association, money laundering and crimes against health.

The now extradited is designated as the person responsible for coordinating the transfer of drugs for the CJNG from South American countries such as Colombia and Peru, to the United States, passing through national territory.

Zapíen Venegas was arrested in September 2016 in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, by elements of the Ministry of National Defense, the Federal Police and the then Attorney General’s Office, when he was traveling in a vehicle.

Investigations into the case revealed that he was one of the closest collaborators of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, leader of the CJNG, and that he had pending charges in the United States, so that country requested his extradition.

The Attorney General’s Office reported that Zapién Venegas was handed over to US agents at the Toluca International Airport.
