Police Identify More La Familia Michoacana Members Involved in Deadly Ambush

Mexican investigators have identified new suspects from La Familia Michoacana (LFM) that were involved in the ambush that left 17 police officers dead in Coatepec de Harinas and Alquisiras municipalities last month.

The photographs of the suspects show them carrying firearms and having several tattoos, which can help investigators facilitate their identification. Authorities believe that these suspects are hiding in narco training camps in the State of Mexico and parts of Guerrero. Most of the suspects are believe to be between the ages of 16 and 30 years old.

Investigators say that three people masterminded the attack: Alberto Romero Perez, alias ‘Macrina” Silverio Martinez Hernandez, alias ‘Fierros’; and Gilberto Misael Ortiz Trujillo, alias ‘Barbas’. State authorities are offering up to MXN$500,000 (US$24,000) to anyone that provides valuable information that leads to their capture.

LFM is headed by Johnny Hurtado Olascoaga, alias ‘El Pez’, and his brother José Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, alias ‘La Fresa’. They are among Mexico’s most-wanted criminals.
