Fresnillo, Zacatecas: Numerous Armed Attacks Throughout City

In just one hour, five people were shot to death in four almost simultaneous attacks within four neighborhoods of El Mineral. Among those now deceased, a 59-year-old woman was reported.

The first bloody event was reported to the 911 Emergency System around 3:00 p.m. by residents of the Las Aves neighborhood, south of the city. It was specifically one of the houses on Caleandras Street where gunmen arrived to attack a 22-year-old man; the shots killed him almost immediately.

Paramedics from the Zacatecas Medical Emergency Network (Remeza) arrived at the crime scene to check the victim’s state of health, however, it was confirmed that the body no longer had vital signs.

While the report and the confirmation of the death of the young man were being carried out, the police authorities were alerted via radio of firearm shots on San José Boulevard.

The first to arrive were the Municipal Police officers, who confirmed that on one side of the aforementioned road, near the Los Olivos subdivision, there were two men with gunshot wounds.

Remeza paramedics arrived to confirm the death of both, as they did not show vital signs. The bodies, which were next to cars of foreign origin, were covered with a white sheet.

Later, around 4:00 p.m., two other violent events were reported to 911. One of them was at the corner of De los Laureles and Del Hierro streets, in the Real de Fresnillo subdivision, where the Investigative Police officers arrived to corroborate that there was a man inside a house with multiple gunshot wounds.

The confirmation of the death of the person was informed to the investigation authorities by paramedics who came to the scene. The lifeless man wore a gray shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. Likewise, around 30 shell casings of different calibers were identified.

At that time, Municipal Police authorities arrived at Ignacio Zaragoza Street, on the corner of Del Membrillo, in the Esparza neighborhood, to confirm the report of gunfire in a home.

In that place, police officers confirmed the death of a 59-year-old woman, inside her house, where several .223-millimeter caliber shells were also found.

In all the events recorded on Thursday afternoon, the streets were secured and the perimeter cordoned off by elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

The first investigations and inquiries were carried out by the State Police of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) and experts from the Zacatecano Institute of Forensic Sciences (IZCF). They ordered that the corpses be taken to their facilities to carry out the legal autopsy for each corpse. As well for their identification.
