SEDENA Confirms Ovidio’s Arrest
The national security cabinet confirmed the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán López, “El Ratón”, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, “El Chapo”, during the early hours of this Thursday in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
In a press conference, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense, commented that the operation for this arrest was led by the National Guard, the Army, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), as well as the Sinaloa Secretary of Security.
“It is a blunt blow to the leadership of the cartel,” stated Sandoval.
During the capture of the leader of drug trafficking in Sinaloa, the authorities seized weapons for the exclusive use of the Army. The head of the Sedena reported that the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán was carried out in a joint operation with state authorities.
“In the framework of the public security strategy and the zero impunity policy of the federal government, at dawn on January 5 of this year, personnel from the Army, the National Guard, the Intelligence Center, the Attorney General of the Republic and the Sinaloa Security Secretariat, arrested Ovidio N, the alleged leader of the Los Menores faction, related to the Pacific cartel,” he explained.
According to the official, the capture was made after six months of work to find his whereabouts.
“The military personnel, when carrying out land reconnaissance to the northwest of Culiacán, carried out the arrest of Ovidio. Said detention was derived from six months of reconnaissance and surveillance work in the area of influence of this criminal group,” he added.
“After controlling the aggression, Ovidio Guzmán was identified.” After the arrest, the official reported that 19 narco blockades were carried out in Sinaloa. Attacks on the local airport, planes, and local hospitals, were reported as well.
He was transferred from the point of his detention to Mexico City in aircraft of the Mexican Air Force. So far, Army and Guard personnel continue to carry out ground tours, he added. The detainee was transferred to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) where his legal situation will be determined in the following hours.
