The United States Sanctions a Mexican Arms Dealer Who Worked With The CJNG

Jesús Cisneros Hernández has conspired to buy weapons in Wisconsin and smuggle them to Mexico, according to the Treasury Department.

The United States government sanctioned a Mexican arms dealer who allegedly worked alongside the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), an organization that traffics fentanyl and other drugs that arrive illegally on American territory.

The sanctioned person is Jesús Cisneros Hernández, who according to the Treasury Department, has conspired to buy weapons in Wisconsin and smuggle them to Mexico, in order to provide them to the cartel.

For its part, an investigative jury of the federal court of the eastern Wisconsin district accused Cisneros Hernández of 22 charges implicated with firearms violations.

The sanctions were ordered by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, known as OFAC.

Brian Nelson, Undersecretary of the Treasury, explained that the CJNG’s access to weapons helps him to enter drugs into the United States.

“The CJNG uses high-caliber firearms obtained in the United States to protect its territory and intimidate both its rivals and the authorities,” Brian Nelson said in a statement.

The organization was sanctioned by OFAC in 2015 for its significant role in international drug trafficking and its arms trafficking activities.

As a result of the sanctions, all the properties and interests of Cisneros Hernández in the United States or in the possession or control of Americans are blocked and must be reported to the authorities.

In addition, companies or entities that are at least 50 percent of their property are blocked. The sanctions are part of an international effort by the United States to stop drug trafficking that generates thousands of deaths in its territory annually.

It should be noted that the CJNG, based in Guadalajara, operates in at least 23 of the 32 stadiums in Mexico, and is headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, one of the most wanted criminals in the United States.
