Government's Performance Is Dismal, Farmers Are Suffering Badly: TDP Former Minister Kalava Srinivasulu

Bommanahal (BIN – IC): The government has attained expertise in making big promises but on ground its performance is dismal with farmers suffering heavily due to untimely rains, said Member of the TDP Politburo and former minister Kalava Srinivasulu. On Monday, he inspected the inundated farms and damaged suguarcane crops near Devagiri Cross and interacted with the farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, the former minister assured the farmers that the TDP would fight tirelessly to put pressure on government and ensure complete justice for the farmers badly hit owing to the untimely rainfall. 

Farmer Revanna has lost his crop for the second time in a row. He had grown chillies on the same land last year and suffered a huge loss. Despite going around the authorities several times for the compensation of chilli crop, he has not received  any benefit so far.  This year he has cultivated sugarcane crop, but even the sugarcane crop has been severely damaged by the untimely rains, the former minister explained the plight of the farmer Revanna. 

He said that if an average farmer loses twice in a row, his financial condition will be very miserable. He lashed out  at the government officials, ruling party MLAs and ministers for not having the patience and time to inspect the crops despite the untimely rains causing so much damage to the farmers.

Kalava Srinivas alleged that Jagan Reddy’s  government is anti-farmer-government and cannot offer anything except big hollow promises. He said that unless this government is rooted out, there will be no justice for the farmers. He said that all the crops grown in the Tungabhadra upper canal area were severely damaged and the farmers are passing through an abysmal phase. 

He urged  the District Collector to help the farmers who have suffered losses by immediately sending special teams to properly assess the damage and pay the compensation to the farmers accordingly. 

Along with the former minister were the TDP leaders Kondapuram Keshavareddy, Balaram Reddy, Venkatesulu, Kothapalli Mallikarjuna, Dhanunjaya Mohan, Govindarajulu, Naveen, Mallidu Srinivasulu, Sangappa, Hanumanthu, Nagaraju, Vepakatanu Krishna. Prem Kumar, Lepakshi, Nursery Srinivasulu, Lakshminarayana, Nagaraju, Gas Govinda, Kesava Reddy, farmers and others.

• Untimely Rains Damaging Crops

Untimely rains damaged sugarcane and other crops. Being a tenant farmer, I invested Rs. 1 lakh nearly an acre for sugarcane crop. The untimely rainfall badly hit the crop in 15 acres. I cannot get back even what I invested. It is a big loss for me. Many farmers have suffered similar loss in this area, farmer Revanna said. 

According to the farmers, crops over six thousand acres have been badly hit across the Bommanahal mandal. No officer has visitied the farms to assess the damage.
