Spare the Code, The People Behind it Is at Fault

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In the world of data processing, software development and network security, there are times when the projects related to them may end up way beyond its intended budget and is behind the projects intended schedule of completion. There are severe cases when these projects end up as failures.

The most important thing for every master in information security expert when it comes to developing better software and other IT related projects is to become a better person first. Those behind the project must have proper communication with each other. They must be driven to complete their task and they should collaborate with other people who are not within their group so that they could complete their projects properly and successfully.

The stakes in developing the software is downright huge. The projects may cost millions or billions of dollars that is why it is important to successfully complete the project. Once the project ends up as a mess, companies and their investors will have to consult other experts to fix and complete the project. In some cases, the project will be put into halt or stopped completely. If anything goes awry in the project, who is to blame? Companies and investors will always put the blame on the project’s manager and they may be right because project dysfunction is the fault of the project manager.

This may have happen simply because the project manager is perhaps not ready for the responsibility the job has. Indeed, IT professionals, engineers, ms information security experts and other skilled technical employees can become the project’s manager because of the company’s mistaken belief. The belief that the technical skills these professionals have is more than enough to become the project manager, but they always fail to realize that these professionals may still lack something – management skills.

When it comes to management, project managers must know how to deal with different people; know how to sort and fix any conflicts, help his or her managed group and has to be compelling. Although, these professionals are excellent in what they really do and have impressive skills, managing skills is not their forte and they have to acquire them first.

In agile development of software, the people behind the construction and development of the software must have more attention by putting emphasis on communication, collaboration, feedbacks from the workers and also the rapid production of the software’s code. It is a much better and less rigid approach and every person behind the project has to be flexible not only the project manager. It is different from the traditional software development where project development teams will first gather all the needed requirements before moving through the each of development stage of the software.

In agile software development, the development team will be able to constantly deliver working software at each development stage where they can carefully scrutinize and inspect all the system reducing the flaws and uncertainty of the software being developed. However, in traditional methods the visible and hidden flaws of the software can only be seen when the project has been completed.

Sometimes, when developing new software, the challenges aren’t in the technical difficulties but in the people working behind the project. In dealing with the project, workers must focus on the task on hand and project managers must emphasize on forming highly collaborative groups or teams in developing the software.

According to a survey by The Standish Group; a survey collected from thousands of different software development of the past few years. Only a third of those software development projects were successful and that these projects were completed on the allotted budget and on time and many individuals are using these software. More than 40 percent of those projects were considered as challenges, projects that were late, way over the budget or not used. The rest were considered as failures; projects that weren’t completed or stopped; projects that were rejected before it was completed.

The good news is that the success rate of many developed software has by 5 percent compared to 2 years prior to the survey. Perhaps the reason behind this significant number is that, project managers whether engineers, masters degree in information security experts or other IT professionals have adapted agile methods in software development rather than the traditional methods.
