In the ultimate outrage to some families and researchers, and despite no evidence that passengers did not survive the Flight MH370 crisis, the Malaysian government has announced that it will issue death certificates for passengers of missing Flight MH370

‘No survivors’?

“We couldn’t find it in the sea and we couldn’t find it on a land. It’s only logical that they’re alive,” 60-year-old Salamat Omar, a relative of one of the passengers, told Reuters.

The Malaysian government has also said it will provide financial assistance to families still hanging onto hopes of their loved ones being found alive, officials said Sunday.

“Deputy Foreign Minister Hamzah Zainudin appeared at pains to show that officials were trying to be fair to all relatives of those who went missing when the Malaysia Airlines jet went missing on March 8,” NBC News reports.

“When we talk about financial assistance, we have to be fair with everybody,” he said Sunday during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur. “The only discussion that we talk to currently is to the next of kin in Malaysia and to representative from China. So, we don’t only talk to Malaysia next of kin. We’ll talk to everybody.”

Despite the search yielding no evidence of survivors, some families cling to hope their loved ones will be found alive. It is uncertain that a piece of paper declaring the passengers dead will satisfy the grievers and researchers.

Experts have repeatedly said it was impossible for the plane to disappear and crash.

In most common law jurisdictions, a missing person can be declared dead in absentia (or “legally dead”) after seven years. “This time frame may be reduced in certain cases, such as deaths in major battles or mass disasters such as the September 11, 2001 attacks.” (Wikipedia)

The United Nations operates a Commission on Missing Persons that serves as an international coordination center and provides also statistical material regarding missing persons worldwide.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement strive to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing persons due to armed conflict or other situations of violence; natural or man-made disaster; migration and in other situations of humanitarian need.
