Report: Xi Purging China’s ‘Deep State’

TRUNEWS with RICK WILES The biggest sign yet that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been heavily damaged by the coronavirus outbreak in his country is a new report published by The Wall Street Journal. In it, Chinese political analyst Wu Qiang suggests the “president for life” has initiated a purge of the country’s security apparatus. In all, nearly two dozen police and judicial officals are now under investigation for varying forms of corruption. Wu told the WSJ the ultimate goal is the establish a state security apparatus in which police, prosecutors, and judges are “absolutely loyal, absolutely pure, and absolutely reliable” – to Xi. The former Tsinghua University lecturer added that while the Chinese president is “especially reliant” upon that apparatus, in its current form, he’s also “distrustful of it.” This purge comes just days after a retired Chinese professor – Cai Xia, who taught “democratic politics” at the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Party School – was disciplined for comparing Xi to “mafia boss” and called the CCP a “political zombie.” She had also advocated for replacing the president as party chief as the “first step” in saving the CCP from itself. Cai, the granddaughter of a CCP revolutionary hero, taught at the party’s most important school for more than four decades – meaning she is an important figure in the Chinese political hierarchy. Censoring and punishing her suggests Xi has troubles with some of the more influential circles in the party. The purge, however, is hardly a surprise. It was telegraphed last month when the Central Political and Legal Committee held an “education and rectification pilot work mobilization meeting.” According to state-run media, the purpose of the gathering was to “implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on strengthening the construction of the political and legal team.” Central Political and Legal Committee Secretary-General Chen Yixin – a key ally of Xi – told the participants this “education and rectification” project was an “urgent and important political task,” adding: “It is necessary to boldly explore and practice, dare to act hard, and carry out a scraping treatment in the national political and legal system. The poisonous self-revolution, the Yan’an Rectification Movement of turmoil and the promotion of the Qing, and the theme education of the soul-building style, strive to build an iron army of politics and law that the party and the people can trust and can rest assured.” According to the state-run media reports of the meeting, this initial purge is merely a “pilot” pogrom to work out how to implement a nationwide purge in the months to come: “In accordance with the requirements of the Party Central Committee, the Central Political and Legal Committee decided to identify relevant political and legal units at the level of 5 cities and 4 counties (cities, districts), and 2 prisons as pilot units to carry out pilot work from July to October this year; Heilongjiang Province The courts, procuratorates, public security, and judicial administrative agencies in Harbin City and Hulan District, Xuzhou City and Yunlong District in Jiangsu Province, Sanmenxia City and Lingbao City in Henan Province, Yibin City and Gongxian County in Sichuan Province, National Security Agency in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, Hulan Prison and Songbin Prison in Heilongjiang Province undertake the pilot tasks. The meeting clarified that the education and rectification of the political and legal teams will be implemented in the national political and legal system from the bottom to the next level from 2021 on the basis of the pilot experience; the national political and legal team education and rectification tasks will be completed by the first quarter of 2022.” Chen also emphasized the need to “fully understand” these three “significances” related to the coming purge: • The education and rectification of the political and legal teams is a self-revolution in the new era of the political and legal fronts. • The education and rectification of the political and legal teams is a “Yan’an rectification style” of turbulent political and legal fronts in the new era. • The education and rectification of the political and legal teams is the theme education of the spirit of the political and legal front in the new era. He also clarified the four main tasks of the purge: • Eliminate the “black sheep.” • Rectify stubborn “miasma diseases.” • Promote the spirit of heroes and models. • Improve the ability and quality of public officials. The Yan’an Rectification Movement was the first mass ideological movement launched by the CCP in 1942. The three-year program resulted in the consolidation of all political power in Mao Zedong and the adoption of Marxist-Leninism as the guiding ideologies of the party. The program was so successful for the CCP that it became Mao’s preferred means to keep the party “pure” – and to ensure all power resided with him.
