Irish Sci-Fi UFO Movie unearths Nazi era secrets.

A new Irish movie reprises the wham bam classic story book style of 1950’s sci-fi pictures. Shipwreck Point features time travelling Nazis, a crashed UFO and a glamorous femme fatale time traveller.

Shot on location in Ireland, the 90 minute movie stars Alan Clarke, Carla Kelly, Tom Moriarty and a host of local talent.

Director and screenwriter, Tom Prendeville, a fan of 1950 style B Movies confesses to having had a ball making the movie:

“The location we choose was stunning- the Dingle Peninsula. Wow- what a place,” he enthuses. “You could say the seascapes and mountains and valleys are the star of the movie. It didn’t matter what day we filmed, whether the sun was splitting the stones or if the place was cloaked in mist; when you looked at the rushes (footage) afterwards, the beauty of the place was just jaw dropping.”

Filmed in 4K digital, the director wrote Shipwreck Point several years ago during a trip to Dingle. The plot centres around the fate of a lost WW2 Nazi era UFO experimental craft that disappears in 1944 only to reappear over 50 years later on fictional Shipwreck Point.

However, there is a lot more to the mysterious crash landing than meets the eye. A dazed crew member on the run soon find herself the focus of a bevy of sinister intelligence agency types keen to sieze the craft and its crew, and silence any eyewitnesses. Particularly, a washed up newspaper reporter who just won’t let the story go, and sees the strange event as his ticket back into the big league again:

“The UFO craft is viewed as the ultimate weapon- a time travelling device that can be used to rewrite and change history at will,” explains Prendeville.

During the 1940’s the Germans experimented creating saucer shaped aircraft which allied airmen dubbed Foo Fighters on account of their incredible aeronautic abilities.

Some researchers have hinted that the craft were capable of lot more and were could travel into other dimensions. After the war many of the German scientists involved in Foo Fighter research were later re-venued in the USA and went on to create the US Space Program.

In modern times one off stand alone feature films have become a rarity due to the popularity of streaming services where audiences can lap up endless hours of a 30 hour drama. Was the director tempted to go this route?

“No certainly not- a lot of those 20 hour dramas lack the excitement and tension of say a ninety minute movie. They are kind of hard work to watch. You really need to be a dedicated fan or an insomniac. There is also the no small matter of the cost. To create twenty hours of drama and all the associated editing bills costs a fortune- you are looking at a huge amount of money.”
