The Courage to be a Traitor

On March 20, 2010, Art Moore wrote in the WorldNetDaily (Link: www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=130141) and picked up by BeforeItsNews (Link: beforeitsnews.com/news/26955/Born-again_Son_of_Hamas_now_fights_Islams_god.html) the story of the “Born Again Son of Hamas” who now fights ‘Islam’s God.’ Although I had already heard his name back in 2008, it is Mosab Hassan Yousef’s recently released book “Son of Hamas” that has catapulted him back into the public eye in early March.  His TV interviews with Christiane Amanpour (Link: edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2010/03/04/aman.son.hamas.spy.israel.cnn) and Sean Hannity (Link: redeemthetime.net/2010/03/04/sean-hannitys-interview-with-mosab-hassan-yousef/) were spellbinding. I raised the volume to make sure I heard every word he said, listening in total disbelief. I immediately realized that this man, already under death sentence from the Global Islamic Media Front, is speaking out with a cause much greater than selling his book “Son of Hamas.” Because I believe that Mosab Hassan Yousef will have a major impact on the world, I have been following his story.

In these two interviews, Yousef states that he believes that Islam is not a religion of peace. He says: “The biggest terrorist is the God of the Koran. The more you follow the steps of the prophet of Islam and the God of Islam, the more you get close to being a terrorist. Muslims are good people, but their God is absolutely bad.” These comments have made him a target. But he doesn’t stop there. He says that Hamas is an organization that still lives in the Middle Ages and needs to go through a Reformation, just as some other religions have done in modern times. It is apparent to me that Yousef believes that he could be the person to open the door for the next generation of Islamic children to get out of the bondage of blind hatred. It is commonly understood that the only real hope for long-term Middle-East peace is to stop the hatred of Jews that is past on, through the Koran, from generation to generation. It is taught in every aspect of Islamic life, which is dominated by the religion. And Yousef knows what it means to be Islamic. Yousef, the son of one of the founders of Hamas, Sheik Hassan Yousef, admits to having been a leader in Hama’s youth movement and was in an Israeli jail with his father. This is where he saw things that opened his eyes to the atrocities that are committed by Hamas, the kind of things that made him vulnerable to becoming an informer for Israel and led him to convert to Christianity.

But, it is in light of recent allegations made by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to our Defense Secretary Robert Gates that Iran is presently in partnership with Syria to transfer Scud Missiles to Hezbollah, that a more recent interview of Mosab Hassan Yousef is hitting a nerve. Erick Stakelbeck of the Christian Broadcasting Network News (Link: blogs.cbn.com/stakelbeckonterror/archive/2010/04/09/part-2-stakelbeck-interviews-son-of-hamas.aspx) had a discussion with Yousef about the Iranian influence in Gaza and the destructive influence Islam has played in Palestinian society. Yousef’s comments are not new pieces of information, but reconfirmation of the Iranian role in the Middle East and the extent to which the Islamic religion plays in it.  

Yousef confirms the fact that in the past the Iranians have supplied money and weaponry to Hamas, and that it is common knowledge in the Middle East. Hamas and Iran have a strong tie with each other, as there is a mutual benefit in their relationship. Hamas does not get financial support from the government. It only raises money from charity organizations. Iranian support represents the major portion of Hamas’ supplies, especially longer-range weapons. And Iran uses Hamas to continue to embarrass the Arab Sunni regimes and spread Iranian influence in the political war that is occurring in the region. Iranian’s open support for Hamas is an attack directly on Israel while no other Arab nation is doing this. 

Yousef’s most recent comments are hurting Hamas as they are vulnerable on other issues, and may shortly add to the growing panic in Lebanon that Israel may be getting ready to strike. I wonder what they will be putting forth to deal with the impact of his book and interviews now?
