"The Lavon Affair" Israel's most notorious false-flag
Tim O’Keefe – Waking Up Wisconsin
In the early 1950’s, Egypt hosted a reasonably strong British military presence. Meanwhile, the US was implementing new policies which promoted Egyptian Nationalism, and encouraged England to decrease military involvement in Egypt. At the urging of the USA, British Intelligence was considering to compromise by withdrawing troops from the Suez Canal, an act which concerned the Nation of Israel, who feared that such a policy would enable Egyptian President Nasser to aggressively attack Israel. Although they had been outspoken about these concerns, by the summer of 1954 Israel had been unable to influence the changing policies of England or America through diplomacy. In order to convince British military forces to remain in Egypt, Israel was willing to resort to desperate measures. With no time to spare, Israeli intelligence (Aman) decided to initiate a covert false-flag operation, code-named “Operation Susannah”.
The stated goal of Operation Susannah was simple: create a sufficient amount of chaos and unrest in Egypt, frame local Muslims as the culprit, and hope that British Intelligence would respond accordingly by retaining its military forces there. The plan was to recruit Egyptian Jews and Israeli militants to perform the unusual task of planting bombs and other explosives inside British and US-funded buildings, leaving behind “evidence” which would implicate that Egyptian Muslims were responsible. The operation was to be carried out by Unit 131, a top-secret cell which consisted of Israeli soldiers and Egyptian Jews who had been specially trained for covert operations.
Within the first two weeks of July, 1954, Unit 131 bombed several buildings in Egypt. First, the cell attacked a post-office in Alexandria, leaving the facility engulfed in flames. The cell went on to bomb the libraries of two different U.S. Information Agencybuildings, in Alexandria and Cairo. The strategy of Operation Susannah included many more targets, but the plot was foiled when some officers of the Egyptian Intelligence Service were tipped-off and followed their suspect, Philip Natanson, into the Rio Theatre in Cairo. Natanson’s mission was to attach a few bombs to the theatre, but he was arrested after one of his homemade explosives accidentally ignited in his pocket. Following his arrest, police proceeded to investigate Natanson, and upon searching his apartment they uncovered stacks of incriminating documents related to the false-flag operation.
This event has become known as “the Lavon Affair”, because in the whirlwind of negative publicity and infamy surrounding the controversial operation, Israeli defense minister Pinhas Lavon was forced to resign. Amazingly, recent findings indicate that even Lavon himself may have been framed, as the true authors of Operation Susannah continue to hide behind top-secret classification. In the aftermath of the event, two suspects were sentenced to execution, two were acquitted and the rest went on to serve hefty prison sentences.
