Is the Middle East “peace” conference opening in Paris Sunday, Jan 15, meant to be the Obama administration’s exit line on Israel, the sequel to the UN Security Council anti-settlement resolution and John Kerry’s condemnation of Israel? This is still a worry in Jerusalem. Kerry is there for the Obama administration along with 72 countries. Binyamin Netanyahu refused the French president’s invitation to attend, calling the conference “rigged” for inflicting damage on Israel.
The draft will affirm “that a negotiated solution with two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, is the only way to achieve enduring peace.” It also will affirm that the international community “will not recognize” changes to Israel’s pre-1967 lines without agreement by both sides.
The PA official said the proposals set forth at the Paris Mideast conference will likely serve as the basis for upcoming UN action. Deputy State Department spokesperson Mark C. Toner, asked about such action, replied that the Obama administration will continue to “work until January 20th.”
Last week, the US House of Representatives voted to condemn Resolution 2334 and “to head off any more moves the Obama administration might have in the next few days.”
