All reports thus far have covered the situation with Fukushima 4, not F1, F2, or F3, nor the other two unaddressed reactors F5 and F6, which I don’t know the location or condition of, but certainly are nearby.
The firebrands are potentially a bit over the top on this, but God help us all if the Corium goes through the floor and through the water table under 4, as there is 100 times the radioactive material on the roof of F4, 4400 Metric tonnes in total.
My biggest concern is nothing has been done by TEPCO to isolate the reactor core and the spend rods. At three years post Chernobyl, the Russians had buried that reactor under 100,000 tonnes of concrete, creating the so-called sarcophagus of the reactor. The Russian reactor design of Chernobyl was outdated and defective when built, and the thing this has in common in Japan is that the reactors at Fukushima are nearly the oldest broadly used reactor design produced by GE in the 1960′s.
What will be tragic is that the Greenies will blame nuclear power, when the problem is corruption and greed controlled by organized crime.
I see nothing the Japanese have done but pour 300 tonnes of water per day from the Pacific, which is then contaminated and sent right back into the Pacific, creating a deadly pollution problem.
We all better pray that we don’t have a China Syndrome at F4. 4400 tonnes of highly long life radiation would be spewed into the atmosphere, and no one wants to talk about that.
It will be the closest thing to an ELE that there is.
