Book Review: Beyond Nostalgia By Tom Winton
· 226 pages

Tom Winton writes about a part of my life again in “Beyond Nostalgia.” In the first half of the book Dean Cassidy looks back forty years at his hard childhood and the only bright spark in it, the day he met Theresa Wayman. They fell totally head over in heels in love. In some parallel universe, they probably spent the rest of their life together, but in this universe he made a terrible mistake and their paths diverged.
He marries Maddy Frances and they build a life together even though life is hard and he doesn’t expect much. He writes a novel filled with the story of the how life is tough for the 99%. He believes “…that nobody, and I mean nobody gets rich without in one way or another exploiting others along the way. They are all users!”
Once again God or some higher power steps in and he realizes that ethics or some kind of values are all that matter.
I don’t know what to think about his disdain for the 1%. Does he really believe that there should be limits on the earnings of the 1%. Is he the socialist or redistributionist he touts? He certainly suffers, but through his own efforts, manages to get through the hard times. Isn’t that what we value in this country?
I give the book five stars. Tom Winton could make reading the telephone book interesting.
