YAL at UWG- First Event

On September 20 2017 the YAL chapter at UWG held their first event of the year. The event was titled The Free Minds Forum.The event took place in the UWG Anthropology building. We had a great turnout, approximately 30 plus people, of different race, creed, religion and background attended the event.The different perspectives led to a continuous discussion. This event was not only a debate; it was informational. Joseph Dean, David Willis,and John Taitano led the discussion.

A few of the topics we discussed were the Civil War statues, President Donald Trump, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), war in Afghanistan, Civil Asset Forfeiture, the Klu Klux Klan (KKK), the new campus carry law, and the Black Lives Matter Movement. At times, the discussion became heated, however overall it was very structured. The debate did not have any dull moments, thanks to many people playing devil’s advocate during the forum.  Overall this event  was an open place for free expression.We held a successful event, and we plan to have more.
