Membership Drive at University of Washington

Earlier this October, the YAL chapter at the University of Washington Seattle Campus had its first membership drive of 2017! We gathered outside the HUB student center for about an hour, asking passing students questions about liberty, and encouraging them to sign up and get involved with our campus’s branch of YAL. Rain combined with the lunch rush made it a bit difficult to start dialogue with people walking by, but we still managed to collect over a dozen sign-ups, and found a couple of people in particular who seemed quite enthusiastic about spreading ideas of liberty on campus.

Personally, this had been my first time recruiting for a club, so I was quite nervous. Much to my relief, the drive went more smoothly than I thought it would, and I hope to try again in subsequent weeks. In addition to finding potential student members, I’ve been in contact with a UW faculty member to potentially become an advisor for our YAL branch, and help us gain official status as a student organization on campus!
