Tanner grew up watching Satch wrestle. And it’s starting to show. These videos were taken from the last tournament he competed in a couple weekends back in Brush, Colorado. The first two matches were against opponents trackwrestling.com had ranked higher than Tanner.

See how that turned out…

Match 1. This kid had pinned 98% of his opponents.

Match 2. This kid should have been registered in 8 and Under. Notice the size difference. But Tanner didn’t seem to mind.

Match 3. Tanner starts to go for a quick pin but changes his mind and decides to try his first in-match Twister. Almost nailed it, too.

Match 4. Tanner knew we were running late for a ChuckECheese birthday party for his best friend, so…

From the State Championship Tournament the week before. Tanner pinned 3 kids at States and finished 8th. This kid was another highly-ranked opponent. A scoring error in the next match finished Tanner’s day (7-6 loss), or I think he could have finished as high as 4. He was also sick — we had him on Emergen-C and sudafed — and I had just taught him the front headlock series about a day before State. He’d been good all year, but here he really started to blossom. By the next week at Brush, he had it down to the point where no match went past the first 50 seconds.

Tanner may wrestle a final tournament next week, but as of right now, he’s finished the season as Iron Man Award Winner for Colorado Top Team, amassing a record of 33-9. Shown here with UFC vets Neil Magny and Eliot Marshall. One day I hope to learn how to rotate a photo on this newfangled site.
