The Medical Marijuana Revolution with Renee Petro

Medical marijuana is now legal in more than 20 states. In the last few years, many governments nationwide have adopted more lenient attitudes toward the substance.

However, even in states where voters and lawmakers have started to make progress, there are pockets of tragedy. In states like Florida, many patients, and their families, are still caught in the grips of prohibition.

Renee Petro is the mother of two children, a young boy and girl. Her son, Brandon, suffers from a rare form of childhood epilepsy called FIRES. The mother spends much of her time fighting this potentially fatal disease in her child, using whatever means she
can to save her youngster.

In March, officials from the state Child Protective Services department showed up at the family’s home, accusing her of administering cannabis oil to her child, in order to treat his symptoms. She denies the allegations.

Renee Petro is, however, a vocal advocate for medical marijuana, in Florida and around the nation. Her group, Cannamoms, is quickly becoming a voice for reform of cannabis laws in a quickly-growing movement.
