Former Governor Gary Johnson Goes Into Pot Business

Former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson has opened a new business, selling marijuana oil.

The 2012 Republican and Libertarian candidate for president has been named the new CEO of Cannabis Sativa Incorporated. The announcement was made on July 1st. The company has also recently acquired Kush, a marijuana research company.

The 61-year-old entrepreneur said he hopes the company he now heads will grow into a major operation. Johnson will work from New Mexico, while the company will sell products in states where cannabis is legal.

The former governor said, “I generally believe this is changing the planet for the better. It also is a bet on the future … We think we have the creme de la creme of marijuana products.”

Cannabis Sativa incorporated will produce lozenges for recreational marijuana use, as well as oils to assist children suffering from epilepsy.

As CEO, Johnson will be paid one dollar a year, and will receive equity in the company for his work.

The founder of Kush, Steve Kubby, has also been named the Chairman of the cannabis products company. He was the Libertarian party candidate for governor of California in 1988.

The new CEO said he hopes to make his new business “the Microsoft of marijuana.” Management of the company said they are attempting to negotiate conflicting state and federal laws regarding the substance.

Anti-cannabis crusaders Kevin Sabet of Smart Approaches to Marijuana and Clinton drug czar Barry McCaffrey say they disapprove of Johnson’s actions.

Johnson said, “[A] couple of things hit you when you try the product. One is, wow, why would anybody smoke marijuana given this is an alternative? And then secondly, it’s just very, very pleasant. I mean, very pleasant.”
