BATTLE FOR WORLD / SPUTNIK NEWS | February 8, 2019: The article highlights that the US State Department announced this week (first week in February) that former Fox News reporter and ex-CIA operations officer Lea Gabrielle would be employed as the head of its Global Engagement Center, in charge of countering foreign propaganda and disinformation.

Robert Palladino, the US State Department’s deputy spokesperson, told reporters on Thursday (February 7) during a press briefing that Gabrielle would provide the agency with the “permanent leadership we have needed to bolster the global engagement center’s operations.”

Gabrielle adds to the list of Fox News personalities to be employed by the Trump administration, and follows the likes of Heather Nauert, who was appointed recently as the next US ambassador to the United Nations. And also Bill Shine, former Fox News executive, presently serving as the White House deputy chief of staff for communications.

Brett Bruen, the former director of the Global Engagement Center during the Obama administration was disappointed with the decision and told CNN that Gabrielle is inexperienced and not right for the task. And that “Her appointment endangers our elections, our public discourse and potentially our economy.”
