Forget ‘The Secret’, Here’s the Answer (Part One)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

“I don’t want to believe. I want to know.” ~ Carl Sagan

Is it possible to know with absolute certainty that your desires will manifest? If you’re just beginning to attempt to alter and shape your reality, or if you’ve been trying for years and your results have been hit and miss (largely miss when it really counts), is there one piece of knowledge or a certain formula that can be pointed to with absolute certainty which will produce results every time, guaranteed?

Everyone has a different way of looking at life. Everyone has a favoured way of functioning psychologically. Some people are kinaesthetic by nature, some lean more toward the visual or auditory senses.

I try to write covering all aspects of human perspective and favoured functioning. Some of my readers have trouble visualising, so I offer a more kinaesthetic approach, talking about ‘feeling’ certain things. It’s a tricky way to cover metaphysics because my work can sometimes appear to contradict itself.

Science doesn’t favour any one modality. Science deals in facts. Either something is or it isn’t.

At least, that’s how it appears.

For example, we can look at a solid object and say that it is solid. However, quantum physics tells us that any solid object is not solid at all – everything around us is made of moving energy and is full of vast areas of ‘nothing’.

The bottom line is that the way that our reality is perceived depends entirely upon how we decide to measure it – and this simple idea is probably as close as I can get to pointing to one piece of knowledge or a certain formula that produces a guaranteed result (any result) every single time it’s put into practice.

The fact is that it doesn’t really matter how you approach manifesting desires or the business of altering and influencing reality. All approaches can work because there is one fundamental constant that rules everything we do – the act of measurement.

It doesn’t matter if you’re visualising yourself as a millionaire, or generating an inner being of love, peace, and happiness, the one process at the heart of our reality is always being used – measurement.

You’re either measuring happiness, or you’re measuring sadness. You’re either measuring love, or you’re measuring hate. You’re either measuring poverty, need, and lack, or you’re measuring affluence, abundance, and freedom.

It doesn’t matter how you set up the experiment, or which set of instruments or assigned values you use, you are always only ever performing the same process every moment you exist – an act of measurement.

So, if there is only ever the act of measurement, then why does it seem almost impossible to experience our dreams and desires effortlessly and on a consistent basis? Why is there so much confusion and contradiction, and why do we have so much trouble experiencing what we want to experience?

Again, it’s a simple question of measurement – that and the all too human trait of impatience.

When you remove the concepts of ‘wanting’ or ‘desire’, everything becomes a matter of choice – the choice of what to measure. The problem is that our choices are almost always coloured by the outer reality existing around us (ironically, much of which we ourselves have shaped).

Let’s break down exactly what a ‘desire’ is, and why we are attempting to alter and influence our reality in the first place.

Firstly, there is the basic initial measurement: am I happy or sad? This measurement is usually triggered by some outer environmental stimulus such as a person, place, circumstance, or event. If the result recorded is that you’re sad, then the solution is to become happy, which leads us to the second step in the process; choosing what would bring us happiness at this particular moment.

Now, this answer is based on a number of factors, but there are two things to keep in mind. The first thing to remember is that your expectations about life and how you deserve to be treated dictate your levels of happiness and sadness.

Expectations about life and how you deserve to be treated are fundamentally linked to your inner master measurement of purpose. If you have a strong sense of inner purpose, your expectations about life and how you deserve to be treated will be high. If you have a weak sense of inner purpose, your expectations about life and how you deserve to be treated will be low.

Let’s be clear on this inner sense of purpose. If you feel loved, free, have self-respect, or any number of positive, supportive, or uplifting feelings, all of these things contribute to your inner master measurement of purpose. You have a reason to ‘be’. You have meaning. You have worth, relevance, significance, importance, and are valued in some special way. If you feel the opposite of any of the things just mentioned, you are collecting contributions that add up to an inner master measurement of a lack of purpose, and this can lead to irritation, anger, and depression.

Let’s get back to the second thing that determines what brings us happiness: the outer values assigned to measurements of purpose. A £50,000 sports car is a value assigned to power, comfort, worth, and even sexual prowess. A £10m home is a value assigned to affluence, financial abundance, opulence, comfort, and luxury. Both of these things are outer environmental values assigned to ‘purpose’. They have purpose in that they offer something of value and worth.

If you’re expectations about life and how you deserve to be treated are high enough, that is to say that if your inner master measurement of purpose is high enough, a £50k sports car and £10m home will be a ‘match’ for you – these outer values assigned to a certain level of purpose match your inner master measurement of purpose.

But wait! Is this really the case? Well, that all depends upon your personal associations to things of outer value. You might be perfectly happy living in a three bedroom terraced house. You may be more than pleased to be the proud owner of a second-hand car that cost £1,000.

Out of all of the values that are assigned some value of purpose, you are the one who chooses which are relevant to you, which are a ‘match’ to you, and which ones have coherence and resonance with your expectations of life, what you believe you deserve, and how easy you find it to measure an inner sense of purpose.
