What Is A Reiki Master?

What is a Reiki master?  For many people, a Reiki master would be someone who has received a master level of attunement, the Reiki master symbols, who regularly gives Reiki to themselves and others and who has taught Reiki to at least one person.

But there are no exams or universally accepted standards for Reiki, and it would be wise to steer clear of those who insist there are ‘right‘ and ‘wrong‘ ways to practice it. The methods used in Reiki therapy are uncomplicated and powerful, but it’s only one of many energy healing techniques. As a Reiki master, you should always remain open to learning about healing by energy in all its forms, and integrate them into your practice if you’re guided to do so.  

Being a Reiki master transcends any formal set of procedures and rules. In fact, you can never ‘master’ Reiki, because your journey of personal and spiritual growth is a lifelong one, and never complete.

Teachers And Mentors

This is one of the reasons why some Reiki Masters are uncomfortable using the term master. They see themselves more as teachers or mentors rather than lofty guru-type figures, and as with all the best teachers it can be difficult to define what makes them good at what they do.

The teaching styles and knowledge of each Reiki master are as individual as they are, and just because their methods and outlook differ it doesn’t make any one Reiki master more or less effective as a healer or teacher than any other.

For many people, the Reiki journey begins with a treatment for themselves. They experience first-hand the gentle power of this therapy, and naturally want to further explore it’s almost limitless potential for healing. Initial experiences with Reiki can be profound, and the subsequent desire to grow through Reiki is only natural.

Connecting With Inner Self

When you become a Reiki master, you connect with your inner self; the power isn’t bestowed upon you by a higher being. You become more and more aware of your spiritual side, and the energies within and around you. And as your awareness grows, the more you’ll discover amazing insights and experiences of joy and peace.

Being a Reiki master encourages you to take full responsibility for yourself. You’ll realise that whatever is happening in your life is only a reflection of the thoughts and feelings you are having. Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world.

You’ll find yourself less ready to anger and will find compassion and kindness for all things. You’ll be able to live in the moment, and when you‘re able to do this you can find peace with the past and feel no need to worry about the future; in other words, you discover tranquillity and are able to hear and understand the guidance that is being offered to you for every area of your life.

Yes, studying to the Reiki master level will allow you to access greater healing energy, perform distance healing  and will allow you to formally teach but the true benefit is the deep healing of self you will achieve, through Reiki alone or in combination with other energy work, and this will be invaluable when you come to guide others along their own path.
