Why ‘Desire’ Is a Dirty Word

In most metaphysical teaching, there’s always one word that’s shackled to the ‘manifesting’ process; and that word is ‘desire’.

What does it mean to have a ‘desire’?

‘Desire’ is a blanket, generic term used to describe your wants and wishes, your preferred circumstances and experiences. In the strictest sense of the word, to desire is to wish or long for something. To desire is to want.

But wait! Aren’t we always told not to want something, that attempting to ‘manifest’ a chosen circumstance or situation that is ‘wanted’ will only lead to more ‘wanting’?

This theory is in fact true. Wanting, wishing, or longing for something simply creates more of the same.

The word ‘desire’ intimates that you want something. To desire a certain something means that you don’t have that certain something, that it is absent from your experience of life.

You are operating from a state of lack, performing a measurement that includes values that contribute to your overall lack of an inner sense purpose (needing, wanting, etc. means that you are in some way lacking).

So, if having a ‘desire’ is a bad thing, what should we all be attempting to manifest? Well, as I’ve said before, the way to look at manifesting is to view what you’re attempting to do as choosing a new truth.

You are choosing a preferred experience. You are using your mental focus and imagination to generate a ‘spiritual’ circumstance that you would like to experience in your outer, ‘physical’ reality. You are comparing an outer value as it is relevant to you, and measuring how that value makes you feel (via the emotional feedback triggered from the outer value).

You are constantly making measurements, measuring to see of something has value to you, if something adds to or takes away from your own personal sense of purpose.

The thing to remember about your ability to alter and shape reality is that it is a natural ability. In fact, it’s almost an accidental ability.

Our ‘physical’ reality of three-dimensions governed by ‘space’ and ‘time’ exists independently of us, and yet, it is intrinsically linked to us.

Physical reality existed before we as consciously aware beings developed. This is not to say that physical reality wasn’t generated by a nonlocal multidimensional event (or ‘God’ if you prefer) to begin with – it’s just that as the nonlocal multidimensional event (God) was individualised within its own creation (giving rise to conscious awareness), it found that it was able to directly influence and shape it.

Our physical reality is not so much an effect of the cause of our thoughts – rather it is affected by our thoughts.

You will always succeed in altering and shaping reality with your thoughts – you simply can’t help it, it’s a natural occurrence. The things to be aware of is how you decide to frame your ability to alter and shape reality, and what you are and are not actually choosing to manifest in your life.

If you think of something that you want to experience as a ‘desire’, you will always be chasing it. If you think of what you want as already being a part of your experience, there will be no need to chase it because you will already have it.

When you envision ‘from the end’, when you use your imagination to envision a preferred circumstance or situation as if it were already a part of your experience, you already have it, the burning need to have your chosen ‘desire’ vanishes. You are left simply enjoying the experience of having whatever you chose to experience in your life.

In fact, more often than not, when you do finally have your ‘desire’, it’s very quickly taken for granted and you have already moved on to your next ‘want’.

Are you beginning to see why it’s so important to be aware of how you are choosing to frame your intentions to experience the new choices you have selected? For instance, if you have a body part that is injured or diseased, and want to heal yourself, you might begin by stating the new truth, “I Am healed”.

The problem with this approach is that by acknowledging that something needs to be healed, the something in question is in need of healing. You are admitting that you are less than perfect. You are admitting to and continuing to generate a state of affliction that requires healing.

When faced with a situation such as the one just outlined, a better approach would be to ask yourself, “Why would I need to heal myself when I’m already in perfect health?”

By asking this question, you are automatically assuming that you are completely healthy. You are focusing on the experience that you actually intended to generate instead of the experience you initially caused.

Similarly, if you are in need of money, don’t approach the circumstance via the road of limitation. Don’t entertain thoughts of wanting or desiring money. Don’t say to yourself that once you have X amount, or are in some specific place, then you will be safe, secure, and able to enjoy your life.

You must change your approach. Ask yourself instead why you would need to ‘desire’ a lottery win when you are already a multimillionaire? Why would you ‘want’ to live in a nice quiet area when you already do?

It can be difficult to engage your imagination when you have to endure noisy neighbours every day, or you are confronted with final demands for mortgage repayments or other bills every week, but I urge you to live your life as much as you can from within.

You are not running away from your responsibilities. You are not burying your head in the sand. You are turning to your own ability to direct, shape, and alter reality so that your outer experiences eventually reflect your inner ones.

Begin today to train your thoughts, direct your focus, and reframe your natural ability to alter your experience of reality.

Ditch the ‘desires’ and choose instead to focus upon your intentions to direct the forces of the reality that you had a hand in generating.

Ignore your outer reality and focus upon what you do want instead of what you don’t. Desires, wants, and wishes rarely come true. If you want to guarantee that an experience will happen for you tomorrow, start assuming that you are already experiencing it today.
