Metaphysical Observer Q&A – Why Your Power is Tied to the Moment of ‘Now’

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Q: Could you explain the importance of the moment of “now”? What is really meant by the statement “your power is in the now”?

This is a concept that I can’t fully comprehend. I’ve even read that the future and past don’t really exist. This just makes little sense to me.

Thank you Steven!

Jeff

Hi Jeff, and thank you for writing.

“Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.”

~ Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Firstly I’d like you to imagine a closed book. This closed book appears to be one solid object, not of individual pages, but a brick of paper. When you look at the book, you can see the whole object, all at once.

This is how things would appear if you could step out of the three-dimensional space-time reality that we exist in.

Still in imagination, I would like you to open the book to any page and pick a word on that page. You are now ‘inside’ the book. From your perspective inside the book, the whole object is now split into thousands of individual pages. Your focus now rests on one of those pages and you are concentrating upon a particular word or letter.

The pages within the book (our reality) represent ‘years’, the paragraphs ‘months’, and the words ‘days’. Each individual letter represents a single moment in ‘time’.

So now you have come from the perspective of viewing the entire book (our reality) from the outside, to suddenly jumping within the  book, and you find yourself in a particular year and month (page and paragraph) focusing on a particular day (word), experiencing a particular moment (letter).

Although all of the other years and months and days and moments still exist, you can only ever read one letter at a time – you can only experience one moment at a time. You may be consciously aware of the pages and paragraphs and words that have come before, and you might have some concept of the pages and possible words that you haven’t reached yet, but all of those pages and words only remain either a memory or a potentiality.

Memories and potentialities exist in the mind. You cannot actually physically experience them – you can only use your imagination to ‘feel’ them with as much spiritual vividness as possible. If you remember sitting in a particular chair, you can go back to that memory and recreate it in your imagination so that it ‘feels’ real to you – even though you may no longer be physically sitting in the chair.

Our ‘physical’ reality is governed by the laws of ‘space’ and ‘time’ in order for us to be able to measure purpose. This is represented by our book analogy in that when you open a book ready to read, you must begin at page one, and read each letter and word, paragraph, and page concurrently otherwise the entire book wouldn’t make any sense.

So we see that our ‘book’ of reality has been created in such a way that it must be read in a certain order otherwise ‘plots’ and ‘character development’ would not occur, thus making the ‘job’ of measuring purpose practically impossible within the confines of our physical reality.

Let’s take the book analogy one step further by making our book something that you can write as you go!

Each page of our book is now fluid in that every fresh page contains an infinite number of letters that we can put together in order to create our own story. The only real rule that we have to follow here is that the story must contain any main characters you have already written about (you, primarily), and the scenes must logically follow on from earlier pages.

What we have here is free will in action, and also the basis for the manifestation process.

The moment of ‘now’ is all we have to experience because our reality is made up of individualised aspects of the whole. Again, everything in our reality is individualised for a reason – to measure purpose.

Space and time exist here because without them, the physical measurement process could not occur (you need space in order to separate one physical thing from another so that each can be measured, and where there is space, there will be the illusion of time, depending upon your position relative to whatever it is you’re measuring yourself against).

How sure are you that you’ve physically experienced what you think you’ve experienced? Yes, you may have photographic or video evidence, you may have scars on your body or even children (!), but once the experience has happened, it is over – you can’t go back and physically experience the thrill (or horror!) of your first kiss again, you can only reconstruct it in your imagination, and this is because we all only ever have the moment of ‘now’ in which to fully immerse ourselves in and experience the events of our lives.

Human beings can only ever physically exist in the present moment of ‘now’. We are only fully aware of the present moment of ‘now’ – and this is  simply because of how our physical reality governed by space and time (in order to measure purpose) is built.

When we measure purpose (or a lack of purpose) we need two things; the measurement of two or more values, and then the result. The measurement happens first, then we can analyse the result. We simply couldn’t do this if we didn’t have space and the resulting sequential moments of ‘time’.

The past and future don’t exist for human beings physically because we are locked forever in an individualised, single moment of ‘now’. Time travel is not possible, and nor is the ability to travel faster than light. If these two things were possible, they would contravene the fundamental point of our reality and us as consciously aware beings measuring purpose.

We can be aware of past events – even carry physical parts with us as we move from one moment to the next – but we can never actually go back and experience past events again because they are simply moments used to help us measure purpose.

Conscious awareness takes in ‘past’ experiences, but it is only really able to focus accurately upon a letter and the word that the letter is contained within. You are pretty sure of the letters and words that came just before the current word you are reading, and you can make a pretty accurate guess as to what’s coming next, but beyond the paragraph you’re on, it’s all pretty much open.

Your power lies in your moment of ‘now’ because you are the author of your book. Your experience of the book of our reality is individual and unique, completely different from every other being reading it with you. The letters and words are all the same, but it’s up to you how you arrange them – and you can only do that as you’re writing.

One thing to remember – correcting grammar and spelling mistakes can only be done as you write, and the only way you can go back and re-write anything is by abandoning the current version of the book you’re writing in order to start again at page one with a clean slate.

I’ll leave that philosophical line of thought for another day.
