The benefits of real time gratitude

Whatever spiritual work you get involved in, one thing is always a constant: giving gratitude. It helps us focus on the good things in our life and, if you follow the Law of Attraction, raises our vibration in order to bring more good things to us. A daily gratitude ritual is usually suggested: perhaps listing ten things to give thanks for before we go to bed. But does this ritual of delayed gratitude miss the point?

I have followed this daily gratitude pattern for many years. I call it praying and it happens automatically when I get into bed. I run through the day and give thanks for all the good things that have come my way and those things that have made me smile or inspired me.

But what I’ve found recently is the feeling of being grateful for all those wonderful things is somewhat detached. Let’s take this morning for example. I had been out running some errands. Nothing majorly exciting but the sun was shining and the roads were clear. Tonight when I go to bed I can give thanks for an easy journey and the sunshine but I will have to work hard to feel again what I reallyfelt during that journey.

The sun was shining, the car windows were open, there was some brilliant music coming from the radio and I was singing along. I tell you I felt alive and, at that point when I said thank you for that journey (whilst I was in the middle of it) the vibration of gratitude was amazing and just shot right back at me. It was a completely different experience from the nightly ritual.

So, I’m not suggesting that you give up any gratitude ritual: they’re all good. But, if you don’t already, just up the ante a bit and practise gratitude real time. Let me know how you get on.
