Weekly Commentary: Remember the Marmara – Israel Needs Its Air Force One

Israel’s equivalent to Air Force One, Knaf Zion, is ready to be used but PR
concerns have overwhelmed logic.

Knaf Zion provides a travelling prime minister the extensive secure command
and control environment needed to navigate a challenge.

Knaf Zion is also “secure” with state of the arts measures to prevent a
third party from hacking into the plane’s systems along with gizmos to
thwart attempts to shoot the jet out of the sky.

None of the talking heads and politicians criticizing Knaf Zion, including
Alternate Prime Minister Lapid, claim that it actually makes sense for the
prime minister to address a challenge requiring his involvement via a mobile
phone which communicates via an antennae suction cupped to a
window in a chartered jet.

And in the world we live in literally every time the prime minister boards a
plane to fly overseas just such a scenario may play out.

I am also absolutely certain that the very same talking heads and
politicians criticizing Knaf Zion would concede that the “cost” to the
Jewish State if, one day, forefend, someone manages to shoot down a charter
jet carrying the prime minister is magnitudes greater than the price tag of
Knaf Zion.

Yes, when the prime minister makes the maiden flight on Knaf Zion the
criticism will be hot and heavy.

But as Harry S. Truman said, If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the
kitchen.
