Weekly Commentary: “Tweezers Fantasy” Drives Lapid’s Vocal Opposition to
Evyatar

This week Foreign Minister Lapid appealed to the world to pressure the
coalition government to break the commitments it made in exchange for the
voluntary temporary evacuation of Evyatar.

Lapid’s appeal, in the form a letter leaked to the press, was followed by a
series of similar unauthorized appeals by various military and other
officials.

Want to argue about the technical legal merits of implementing the Evyatar
deal? Sure.

But don’t inject considerations of “what will the world say”.

While Lapid and the others are relating to a very specific place with its
very specific circumstances it would be folly to assume that the pressure
they invite would actually be limited to this specific case.

The world doesn’t know and for the most part doesn’t care about the
difference between Eyatar and Ariel or for that matter Evyatar and the
Jewish Quarter of the Old City or Ramat Eshkol.

When Lapid appeals to the world to pressure the Jewish State to bar Jews
from Evyatar he is unwittingly encouraging pressure that any and all
locations beyond the “Green Line” be judenrein.
