Weekly Commentary: Without a Plan B World is Iran’s Hostage in Talks

Israel has been preparing to implement a Plan B in consultation with Arab
states who recognize the danger of a nuclear Iran. And while the Biden
Administration is eager to cut a deal with Iran the U.S. is also
participating.

To be clear: this doesn’t mean that Israel is giving a veto to other
parties, nor does it mean that every detail of Israeli capabilities and/or
preparations and/or operative plans are being shared. It does mean that
everyone can have a clearer idea how they can contribute to a Plan B and
take the steps to be able to make that contribution.

Should Germany and other European – or for that matter any other power in
the world – participate in consultations on Plan B this is no way undermines
their efforts to reach what they consider to be a workable conclusion of
this crisis via negotiations with Iran.

In point of fact the opposite is the case.

The possibility of peaceful resolution of the crisis increases if Iran
understands that there is, indeed, a Plan B.

So unless someone-s sole interest is a photo op rather than a viable
resolution of this crisis they should have every interest in a Plan B.

After all, a Plan B developed and prepared for implementation before the
talks should fail will no doubt be considerably less potentially
catastrophic for the world than something patched together with Iran
literally moments away from a nuke (or worse).
