Weekly Commentary: LEBANESE DEMANDS NOT NETANYAHU’S TWEETS KILLING GAS DEAL
Dr. Aaron Lerner 7 October 2022

A few hours after the Government of Israel was advised that the Lebanese
demanded to renege on critical security and economic elements of the gas
deal Prime Minister Lapid and others in the administration announced that
these changes were unacceptable.

Since then the narrative that this decision was somehow driven by a stream
of comments which Binyamin Netanyahu made prior to the Lebanese move has
been used to essentially downplay the significance of the Lebanese demands.

This is unfortunate because in this incredibly volatile period very few
people are going to take the trouble to actually follow what is going on.

And this hurts Israel’s position.

I sincerely hope that Netanyahu sees fit to put his fantastic hasbarah
skills to work to take to the international airwaves to detail and explain
just why the Lebanese demands are so profoundly unacceptable.
