Weekly Commentary: My dream Memorial Day remarks of Haredi Minister of
Housing Yitzchak Goldknopf

A group of families of soldiers buried in the military cemetery in Kiryat
Gat have written to Minister of Housing Yitzchak Goldknopf asking him not to
speak at the upcoming ceremony to be held at the cemetery on Memorial Day.

My dream is that Minister Goldknopf provide a preview of his remarks via
various high profile interviews and then attend.

This is my dream of his remarks:

Today as a minister in the Government I join in honoring today these brave
soldiers as the Government’s representative at this memorial ceremony.

We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our beloved
country.

The Jewish State exists today thanks to the sacrifice made by BOTH those now
lying in the military cemeteries as well as all those who did Army service
and I want to be absolutely clear that military service is unique in its
contribution to the country.

As we learn time and again from our Scriptures, the Master of the Universe
from the first battle with Amalek through the liberation and defense of the
Land of Israel by Joshua and others who followed, acted via those who took
up arms.

We will be forever indebted to our brave soldiers.
