I am sharing this old recording as Hezbullah, after carrying out incremental
tests of how we react to various attacks over the past three days launched
an operation threatening up to Haifa.

If the rockets don't start raining down on the North this evening it is
because they are still testing our responses and/or wearing us down before
launching the big attack.

I also thought that Iran would keep Hezbullah out of the game so that they
could continue to deter Israel.

I was apparently wrong.

But I have no problem admitting I was wrong and moving on with what should
be done in light of reality.

Amos Yadlin continues to insist on Channel 12 that these attacks aren't even
being carried out by Hezbullah because it doesn't jibe with the pearls of
wisdom which he and other experts have been sharing with us for years.

It would appear that like-minded experts serving now in Israeli military
intelligence and other key positions share his assessment and so:

We have opted not to take the initiative and put into action the billions of
dollars of training for the moment that we wipe out the long range rockets
which Hezbullah has amassed.

It is way over my pay grade to know if the delay will degrade the
effectiveness of the operation as Hezbullah changes the locations of the
missiles.

I only hope that we haven't frittered away out inventory of the interceptors
to protect strategic locations (we never planned to protect civilians in the
North against a massive rocket attack).

I daresay that if a civilian like Amir Peretz was Minister of Defense today
we would have pulled that multi-billion dollar operations folder off the
shelf and executed it already last Saturday night]

MK Amir Peretz described in a live interview broadcast on the noon news
magazine of IDF Radio on 15 September 2013 how, as Minister of Defense at
the start of the Second Lebanon War, he insisted that the first IAF
Operation of the war be to destroy Hezbullah’s long range missiles despite
the strong recommendation of the military that the first operation focus on
striking other targets.

Peretz noted that one of the arguments against taking out the missiles was
that Israel’s possession of the information regarding their locations was a
secret. In retrospect the decision has been recognized as one of the
critical good decisions of the war.
