Lamborghini's new Huracán exceeds order expectations

Lamborghini’s long awaited new supercar has received a successful ovation prior to its official launch.Over 700 orders have already been placed ahead of the official debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

 Following in the footsteps of the legendary Gallardo, Lamborghini’s most successful selling supercar, 2014’s heir to the throne is already shaping up to potentially become more successful than its paternal forefather. The Huracán LP 610-4 is currently undergoing a month long worldwide preview tour to entice advance orders.

 Obviously there is perfect justification for such an immense level of interest at this early stage, particular due to the power the new Huracán will produce. Powered by a 5.2 litre V10, the Huracán will produce a mind-blowing 610HP/448kW at 8,250 rpm. Torque levels of 560Nm at 6,500 rpm add to the potency of the Huracán’s new powerful heart. Also, direct and indirect gasoline injections are smartly combined with the new ”Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” (IDS) system. Hence, the new car is not only significantly more powerful than the outgoing Gallardo V10, but also much more fuel efficient. A top speed of 325km/h (201mph) and a 0-100km/h 0-62mph) time of a blistering 3.2 seconds certainly is enough to encourage rapid tectonic shift. Even more impressive still is the 0-200km/h (0-124mph) time of a biblical 9.9 seconds.

 Environmentalists would even find themselves slightly more appeased by the Euro 6 compliance and reduction in fuel consumption. On average, a future Huracán owner can expect to consume a reduced 12.5 litres of fuel per 100km (3.3 Gallons per 62 Miles). Not that many Huracán owners would be worried about the cost of fuel. Air quality is considered too with an improved 290 g/km in CO₂ emissions.

 As expected in most modern cars of this type, the extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum has been scientifically crafted to create a lightweight and rigid chassis. The total dry weight of the new Huracán is an impressive 1,422 kg, with a superb power-to-weight ratio of 2.33 kilograms per horse power. Certainly this makes the Huracán a fitting upgrade to the outgoing model.

 Power is delivered in combination with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, known as the ”Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF), in sync with an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system. Traction can also be modified to suit road conditions via a driving dynamics selector mounted upon the steering wheel, which provides options for: Strada, Sport and Corsa. Thus the steering, power delivery, electronic stability control, exhaust note and four-wheel-drive system will be spontaneously modified to suit the driver’s needs.

 One of the most important factors for most buyers will also be the aesthetic appeal. The new Huracán will revolutionize the design of the outgoing Gallardo, with its new sharp edges, monolithic and sculptured volumes and precise surfaces. The initial starting point is the silhouette of the Huracán, born out of the desire of creating an automobile, whose profile is defined by only one line that merges the front with the cockpit and the rear of the car. The lateral windows come together to create a hexagonal form inserted like a glass jewel in the car’s profile. State-of-the-art LED technology makes the night time image of the new car unmistakably a Lamborghini.

 The interior is similarly upgraded and innovative. A 12.3 inch full-color TFT instrument panel delivers all car information to the driver, from rev counter to navigation maps and infotainment functions, and can be configured by the driver in different setups. Interior trim can be ordered in Nappa leather and Alcantara with many customization options for individual requests. Materials are of the finest sources with a light vibe throughout its entirety.

 The Huracán LP 610-4 will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 4, with deliveries expected in spring. Whilst those without the adequate budget can click here to browse perfectly good used Gallardo’s in the classifieds, those desiring the latest technology should definitely get their skates on and attend a VIP preview in a city nearby. Failing that, the Huracán will certainly be the star of the show in Geneva, and is likely to exceed production numbers of 14,022 units, as per the previous Gallardo.
