Regular Car Reviews: BMW E30 OMGahhhhhhhhhhh

The E30 BMW meets Regular Car Reviews. Ohhhh yes. I can hear your hair tingling already, chair squeaking as you lean forward, excited to see if this post lives up to your idea of what those 6 letters mean to you. “ZOMG I hope he talks about the E30 M3, oh dear god I hope he does. I can just imagine its steering feel, so perfectly firm and fast, not that I’ve ever driven one but everything I’ve read tells me it’s amaaaaaaazing.”

Well this video isn’t about the E30 M3, it’s about an E30 sedan.

“Doesn’t matter, still has “E30″ in the chassis code so it’s the best chassis of all the chassis and everyone knows you have to say “chassis” a lot when you’re talking about old BMWs and yeah I know every car technically has one but other car makers didn’t know what ‘chassis balance’ was until the smelled the sweet exhaust of a BMW E30 when one ripped by and slapped them with a textbook written by my man Newton and yeah these cars aren’t that fast, or that stiff, and the interior looks like a collection of dominoes and white out but I don’t care because the internet tells me the E30 is amazing and yeah I don’t use punctuation.”

That’s my impression of the general internet commenter regarding an E30 BMW, M3 or otherwise. Yes, they had chassis balance and RWD, make great cheap race cars, and are fun to drive (Woo hoo slow cars fast!) but, like the guys touting Rocky Balboa as the greatest boxer ever (“He’d bus’ Tyson up to 90th street, I don’t care about the differentness in nutritional science and muscle density!”), while being great cars for their time, they aren’t going to pull you away from a GT3. They, like Miatas, offer a lot of fun for little money. They lean, step out progressively, and you can drive them hard without risking over-cooking a turn because you held the throttle .5 seconds too long. Good car? Yeah. Messiah? No.
