The Ferrari F430 isn’t the prettiest Ferrari ever made. It’s not the quickest anymore, either, and in some ways, feels like an ancient car, especially compared to the 458 that replaced it. However, there is one way to make a Ferrari F430 feel brilliant and utterly timeless: the manual gearbox option. In 2006, Ferrari charged nearly $12,000 for the privilege of having paddle shifters rather than a stick, and the take rate on paddles was something like 95%, making a manual gearbox F430 quite a rare car. I had a chance to drive one for an hour back when they were new and the experience was life changing. I was not going to pass on the chance to do it again.
