Tesla installs a Supercharger station at famed Nürburgring race circuit in Germany

Tesla has announced that they have installed a Supercharger station at the Nürburgring racetrack in Western Germany, hinting that Model S testing is not complete, and they may plan to be at the famed circuit for a long period of time.

Rumors of Tesla’s run at the Nürburgring all started in early September when CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the Model S would take a shot at the pinnacle of automotive testing after rumors of the Porsche Taycan setting a four-door production record. The achievement even had Musk speaking its praises.

Since Musk’s reveal that Tesla would be taking on the “Green Hell”, speculation regarding what car would be used, who would drive the car, when the official test date is and rumored lap times have all been heavily discussed. The company seems to be taking a step toward permanence at the German raceway, as Tesla’s Twitter account shared a picture of a dark blue Model S connected to a Supercharger and added that the stall is not temporary.

Tesla has tested numerous vehicles in Germany over the past month, with more and more light being shed on them as the days go on. Musk clarified that the Model S testing at the Nürburgring had seven seats, and was eventually identified as the “Plaid” powertrain that will begin production in late 2020.

The competitive attitude of Tesla seems to be ignited after the Porsche Taycan had reportedly set the four-door production electric car record at the Nürburgring. Musk seems determined to prove that Tesla’s vehicles are still the fastest battery-electric cars on the market. With the recent unveiling of the “Plaid” powertrain and the revelation that it has already demolished the Taycan’s record by around 20 seconds, it could be signs that Tesla wants to continue testing its vehicles until the performance is regarded as undeniably the best. After all, Musk has already confirmed that the next-generation Tesla Roadster will take on the track next year, and guarantees that it will set the record for the fastest lap ever completed at the 16.12-mile track.
