Hyundai Motor Group showcased autonomous park and charge robots. The South Korean automaker recently released a video of its park and charge robots.
“No more parking stress—leave it to the robots. These parking robots lift the wheels of the vehicle and can maneuver in any direction to park your car with precision,” described Hyundai Motor Group.
Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous parking robots can carry up to 2.2 tons of weight and can run at a speed of 1.2 m/s or around 4.3 km/h. The parking robots attach to the front and back wheels of a vehicle. A camera system guides the parking robots to the car’s designated spot.
The company’s parking robots can carry vehicles through a multistory building. The smart parking control system can control up to 50 robots simultaneously. The robots can park and bring cars back to the driver. Hyundai wants to develop its smart parking control system further so it can be used with parking robots and human drivers.
Hyundai also revealed the next step in its smart parking buildings: the Automatic Charging Robot (ACR). If an electric vehicle (EV) needs charging, Hyundai’s parking robots carry it to the charging area, where the ACR automatically charges it.
ACR units are equipped with deep learning-based recognition functions that allow them to scan a license plate and match the EV’s charging port with the proper charging connector. Then, they connect the EV to the correct charging stall and monitor the car’s battery status. Once charging is complete, the parking robots retrieve the EV and move it back to its designated parking spot.
ACR units were developed through a collaboration between Hyundai and Kia. Hyundai Motor Group plans to integrate ACR units into its smart parking system by Q3 2024.
