'The Thing' First Clip: 2 Jump Scares in Less Than a Minute (Video)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Anyone who’s seen John Carpenter’s The Thing asked the same question at the end of the movie: what happened to those guys? Well, in this updated version of the classic, brooding thriller, the answer is not forthcoming.

The real question is: what happened to those guys before what happened to those guys? Because this new take on the old classic (a third go-around by the way… but the first one doesn’t really count… it was kinda lame) is a prequel to the Carpenter film.

In that endlessly rented and replayed VCR classic, the movie starts where this film presumably leaves off. Remember the Norwegians who were trying desperately to kill that beautiful sled dog? Well, now it’s time for some answers.

The first extended clip of “The Thing” hit the web on Wednesday, and if it’s any indication, there will be plenty of good-old fashioned jump scares.

It’s a tried and true horror film technique that never really gets old. It just depends on how well the movie is made and the skill a director has in telling the story in between heart attacks.

Without spoiling too much, suffice to say old dogs learn new tricks in this clip which has not one, but two beautifully set up jump scares–in the space of just a minute or so.

Go ahead and have a look. But be forewarned: it’s not for the faint of heart. And make sure to double-check the volume control.

Turn it up to 11…
