'Kill the Messenger' - Interview with Nick Schou
About 30 years ago, an Associated Press journalist broke a shocking story about the CIA. Ten years later, Gary Webb was working at the San Jose Mercury News when he uncovered the story, and started repurposing the report in his own series called the “Dark Alliance.” The report accused the CIA of covering up their part in an illegal cocaine smuggling ring. After Webb reported the story, his life fell apart. One by one, news agencies started to pick him apart, trying their best to discredit his story. Eventually, his own employer turned on Webb, and forced him to resign. Webb ended up committing suicide in 2004. Now, the Contra-Cocaine scandal is being retold in a new movie, called, “Kill The Messenger,” starring Jeremy Renner.
