First Nations, RCMP Clash In New Brunswick (Video)
Reports of 40 arrests including First Nations Chief.
RCMP have riot police with sniper rifles and assault rifles on scene. An unconfirmed report that one man has been shot multiple times is circulating. Several police vehicles have been set on fire and the standoff continues.
The Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq First Nation has been protesting the development of the region’s shale gas resources for months. In June, the RCMP responded to the lighting of a sacred fire with arrests. Today, a reported 75 officers responded to the peaceful blockade toenforce an injunction, sending 10 officers in military fatigues with sniper rifles.
